I need info from the educated crowd --

I was surfing around on the wonderful website (recommended by BFL) at http://primusweb.com/fitnesspartner/index.html,
and came across a review for a really fascinating TALKING heart rate monitor called the "Heartalker" (http://www.heartalker.com). It does all the usual heart monitor things, but (in Kathy Smith or Denise Austin's voice, take your pick) it speaks to you when you're outside your zone and says something appropriately motivating to you.

This strikes me as too much fun to resist, or too annoying, and I can't decide which. But these devices are moderately priced (about $75 - 80, I think) and I'm in the market for a new HRM as my Polar finally gave out.

Have any of you folks used the Heartalker, or do you know anything more about it?

Hmmmm....

I don't know... I had kathy smith's walking tapes some years ago, and although I found it motivating at first to have her prodding me on, it ended up being terribly annoying. For me, I think the same would hold true for her voice on my heart rate monitor. On the other hand it could be fun, as you said. Just my opinion--take it or leave it--but I even turn the beep thing down on my Polar so it doesn't distract or annoy me. Maybe I'm ultra sensitive while I'm working out

have fun deciding!
