Talk to me re: protein bars, shakes etc.

I've never used protein bars or shakes but I often see them listed in people's food lists here. What is the benefit of eating/drinking them? Snacks or meal replacements? Which are the best ones in your opinion?

I use Nitro Tech protein shakes and bars. I also use Cell Tech. For more info on this products just go to the website. The reason why I take the shakes is because I don't eat enough protein and I have a hard time building muscle. I really like this products. They can be a little expensive so I have a membership at GNC and buy the products the first week of the month when I can get up to 30% off. Hope it helps a little.

I use them occasionally on days when I haven't had a lot of protein, and especially right after a lot of weight work, as I've heard it helps to eat protein right after muscle failure. I use Spirutein or rice protein mixed into kefir or soymilk into a paste. I like eating it better than drinking it, just a preference.

I like to use Optimum Nutrition's Whey protein powder after my workouts for recovery. You can either mix it with water or milk. I like to mix it with skim milk. My husband uses it too. It's really hard for me to get enough protein in a day, so this really helps a lot. It has 23 grams of protein per serving. I mix it with milk, so I get a little bit more protein. All of the flavors are pretty good IMO and the prices are reasonable. I usually order at www.bodyconcept.com.
