Taking a break.....

Hi Cathe! I have a quick question about taking a break. I haven't taken a break since the end of July and frankly, I'm tired. I've been doing the CTX rotation since the begining of Feb. and I'm starting a new PS rotation come April. Here's my question, is it too soon to take a week off before I start the PS Series? How often should a person take a break? And will it be detrimental to my progress? I feel my muscles have "flattened" a bit. I thought maybe a week off before I start PS would help. Or should I do just cardio? Yoga? Or not take off at all? As you can tell, I'm very confused about all this. Usually when I take off it's due to vacation or illness, not because I feel wore out. Exercise usually cures that for me, but now I'm waking up tired even after a good night's sleep. Ok, Thanks for you help!!

Hi Aimee! TAKE A BREAK!!!! You're muscle will love you for it. It sounds to me like you are entering early stages of overtraining (burn out and muscle fatigue). Since you have been training consistently since July, I would recommend taking a whole week off free of all fitness related activities (unless they are social activities (ex. nature walk). This is the best remedy for fatigued muscles. You will get stronger while you rest and come back much more focused and rejuvinated.

Now get your date book out and get caught up with some friends next week ;-)!

Thanks Cathe!! That's just what I'll do!! And thanks for answering so quickly!! I can't wait to start that PS Series next week and really give it all I've got! For this week though, I shall recupe as you perscribed;-)! Thanks again!!
