suggestions on this rotation?

Cathlete
Hi everyone.

I have been doing longer weight sessions, and only working each body part once per week. (these have usually been PS and Bodymax combined, or PS and CTX combined.)

For cardio I have been doing a variety of mostly Cathe's stuff, trying to include 2 long intense, 2 medium to long moderate intensity, and 2 short easy to moderate intensity..

For this new rotation I have to baby my left knee. I am planning to up the number of times I work each body part, and shorten the duration of each session. For leg work, I will only do floor work, or standing work that does not require me to bend my knees beyond, at most, a semi-squat. Since I'm not doing heavy work, I want to do legs three times per week.

My biggest concern is cardio. I still want to maintain at least 3, and at most 4, cardio sessions per week. None of these will be intense, and all of them will be modified to low impact. My plan is to do one or two step workouts WITHOUT THE STEP, one or two kickbox workouts MODIFIED TO LOW IMPACT, and/or one or two flat- surface walks.
Here's what I came up with:

MONDAY: Back, biceps, and legs, and 40 minutes cardio
TUESDAY: Chest, shoulders, and triceps
WEDNESDAY: Legs and abs
THURSDAY: 40 minutes cardio
FRIDAY: 40 minutes cardio
SATURDAY: CTX upper body split and legs
SUNDAY: rest or walk, and abs

all body part work will be CTX. Leg work will be from the following:
Kathy Smith Secrets to a Great Lower Body
PS SLA
TWV floorwork
Original Buns of Steel (when it arrives :) )
Spri tubing (after I order some!)

So, what do you think? Too much, too little, any suggestions on good leg floorwork videos, or good low-impact cardio tapes?
Thanks in advance for any and all input.
Wendy

Hey Wendy!

Your rotation looks good to me.

Don't know if you want to invest in more tapes but thought I'd give you a few suggestions for the type of workouts you're looking for...

For leg floorwork:

-Karen Voight's Great Weighted Workout (just fast forward to where they go to the floor; this also includes ab work)
-Karen Voight's Body Reform: Total Body (despite its name, this tape mainly consists of ab work + leg floor work). This tape, however, requires a piece of equipment called the Magic Circle or Resist-a-Ring (the thing kind of reminds me of the old Suzanne Somer's Thighmaster) but you could probably get away with using a toy rubber ball.
-The Firm: Sculpted Buns, Hips, and Thighs (also includes quite a bit of ab work)

For low impact cardio:

Charlene Prickett has a quite a few tapes in this category (see her website, http://www.charleneprickett.com ).
The only ones I have are "Start Your Engines" and "Less Impact, More Results." Haven't done them for a while but as I recall, both showed good low impact modifications.

Hope this helps and just know that you are doing the right thing in allowing for adequate rest for that knee :)!!

Take care,
Lisa

RE: Hey Wendy!

Hi, I just wanted to second the suggestion for KV's Great Weighted Workout. The floor work for legs is awesome, watching it, it seemed simplistically easy...until I did it. I had been doing PS Legs and MIS and with only 1 lb ankle weights this workout was tough! I also enjoyed the upper body work and used only 1, 3 and 5 lb weights (mostly 1 & 3) and it too felt amazingly tough. I love this tape for times I travel out of town b/c it's effective and I dont have to lug much weight around. Good luck on your rotation!!

RE: Hey Wendy!

LAST EDITED ON Apr-16-01 AT 00:05AM (Est)[p]thanks, Stacy and Lisa. Someone on VF also recomended GWW--I think I'll check it out (literally) from the library, then see if I can trade for it if I can't find it cheap...

I second Lisa's floorwork recommendations

I can vouch for all 3 of Lisa's floorwork recommendations. Using a weighted ball instead of a dumbbell makes the GWW floorwork especially effective. I found the Body Reform tape quite similar to GWW with a different toy (the squishy circle).
