Sugar Part II

Okay, who wants to join me on a Daily NO Sugar Challenge. I figure we all could work at it, one day at a time, right! ;) ;) I'm starting tomorrow.

Has anyone heard of SUCANAT? It is a brown unprocessed sugar that I believe I can use to replace the white stuff and my splenda. It suppose to healthier than sugar  I just brought a tiny bag at Mustard Seed.

And by the way, this morning was my last cup of coffee, I usually only drink a cup in the morning (only at work) not suppose to have that. I’m going back to drinking green teas, black tea and lemon tea. All aboard :p :D :)

>Has anyone heard of SUCANAT?

Sucanat is unprocessed sugar, and would be like combining white sugar and molasses (which is removed from sugar during the processing of white sugar). It has a few more trace miinerals and vitamins than white sugar.

Turbinado sugar is pretty much the same (thogh I forget if it contains all the raw sugar ingredients, or if it's from the first processing step? There are a couple of types of sugars that are made from sugar cane).

Sucanat would be a good sub for sugar and splenda, and since you're just using it in your coffee, you probably aren't using a whole lot.

Congrats on giving up coffee (though you might want to transition first to black tea, which has more caffeine, to keep from getting withdrawl symptoms, though with one cup a day, that might not be a problem).

Teddygirl, what do you need the sugar for? Baking? Your tea?

Sugar is sugar no matter what form you are buying it in. Refined sugar is no worse than sucanat, or corn syrup, or honey, or, or....there are so many forms of sugar.

If you're going to give up eating sugar then just do it. You don't need to eat sugar everyday. You don't need to put it in your coffee or tea everyday. If you do then why are you even drinking those beverages if you don't like the taste of them without sugar? Drink water instead.

But that is my point...why drink tea if you don't like the taste?

Why drink wine coolers if you don't like the taste of wine?

Why do we have to add sweeteners to everything we eat and drink?

I drink tea, black. Adding sugar or milk to it would just ruin the whole tea experience imho.

I like wine. Wine coolers are kool aid.

If you have to add sugar to a food or beverage in order to make it more palatable for yourself, then you shouldn't be eating or drinking it.

Hi guys,

Gotta type fast, dear boss is lurking………

The truth, is the truth, if I am going to stop with the SUGAR, than why try to fine a substitute? JUST DO IT! Right. I thought about it after I sent this post and was like duh!!!!

Okay, first day and NO coffee that one’s easy :D Because, no way am I drinking coffee without sugar; can’t do it, black or with creamers, NO WAY.

Once I got to work tis morning I had a cup of green tea (caffeine free) and yes I did use Sucanat, but I had too ask myself why.

I guess only a teaspoon or 2 packs of splenda isn’t really that bad, considering the amount of Sugary things that I eat.

When I posted this message, I meant Sugary things like; and I am notorious for all these things. Cookies, Cakes, Pies/Cream Pies and chocolate OMG of all the things that I named CHOCOLATE is my worst enemy. I absolutely, positively adore chocolate’s, I’m a sweet a holic, yep, all me life. I do have a better handle on it nowadays. But, now in my older age, I want to eliminate the things that I know are bad for me and do me know good, which our my biggest concern.

However, day one, I did GOOD, I’m a little blah...blah... still from not having coffee this morning, but this too will pass, right! ;-) ;-) Altho, I'm still feeling like I just got out of my bed ;( }( ;)

Tomorrow, I’ll try to drink my tea plain. If I am not able too, then it goes. I know its an acquire taste, huh! It really shouldn’t be hard, but if I’m not able to tolerate it, bye bye tea’s.

Teddygirl,
I just want to wish you luck on your sugar challenge. I don't care for sweets so sugar has never been an issue for me (I'm a salt person myself;)). I gave up sugar-free sodas a little while back and even my beloved Red Bulls:eek: The only time I ever need a sweetner is on Grapefruit or rasberries and it is usually just a dash of Stevia Plus.

As for coffee and green teas....I drink both and I will give up neither. They both have their proper place and benefits for me.

Robin:)

I use splenda, but I find I really don't need it like I think I do. I could drink tea without anything in it or eat oatmeal without the few packs of splenda I put in it. Once you get use to giving up the real sugar, it does get alittle easier to just go without.

Because green and white teas, especially, have very beneficial antioxidants in. And if a little bit of sweetening helps you get used to them(especially from a sweetener like stevia that also has health benefits), then why not?

"A spoonful of sugar helps the medicine go down, the medicine go down-wown, the medicine go down, just a spoonful of sugar helps the medicine go down.....in a most delightful way." - Mary Poppins

Robin;-)

ETA: You can change it to honey, splenda, stevia or whatever you like :)
