Suddenly obsessed with aspartame

I was ready to reply with reverse osmosis but Michelle beat me to it! We only buy bottled water when we go on road trips. Otherwise our own water, as Michelle described, tastes much better. We have to replace our Nalgene bottles though. BTW buy the new Nalgene bottles. The company and it's manufacturing plant is based in Rochester , NY!!!!

Judy, how can you drink from those Nalgene bottles? My DH uses them for his bike rides, and I can't drink out of them. I think they make water taste like plastic, and they also make it look so unappealing. What do you use them for?

>I think they make water taste like plastic...
That's not a good sign. It means that some of the chemicals in the plastic are leaching into the water.

FYI to anyone interested: The manufacturers of Nalgene bottles also make plastic restraint devices for animals used in experiments, and some people choose to boycott them for that reason.

Thanks, Kathryn. Fortunately, I think those 6-pack days lasted less than a year. And I think even then it was really less than 6 per day. It's nice of you to say that a healthy lifestyle can offset the damage, and I'm going to try to believe it. I'll try your "recipes" when I finally get the reverse osmosis thingie.

any particular brands or certain systems recommended for the reverse osmosis? I was looking into getting one under the sink but I have to convince DH. Right now we filter our water with reg water filters.

Jonah, sounds great! Thanks. I love Canada Dry Lemon Lime Twist seltzer.

I gave up all artificial sweeteners last summer after reading the reports on both Aspartame and Splenda. I have not only avoided weight gain, but have been able to stay about 5 pounds lighter with no extra effort.:p

The biggest problem is avoiding these sweeteners. I just found that Flintstone's vitamins have aspartame! How healthy is that?!?!!

As for soda--I LOVE root beet, and I've just learned to keep a 6 pack of those mini-sodas in my fridge for when I really want one.

My 4yo knows that Diet Coke isn't healthy!! I thought it was an appropriate story for this thread. She had a field trip today and they got to eat McD's for lunch. I asked what she had and she said chicken nuggets & french fries.... and she said that she wanted some fruit when she got home to eat something healthy. ;-) Then she said that she had an apple juice drink box but her friend had Diet Coke. Allison told her that it was not a very healthy choice and next time she should choose juice or milk instead. ;-) I guess she is listening to me when we talk about healthy/ not healthy choices! :)

Nancy- I use a narrow 24 oz. Nalgene bottle. However, Nalgene is pulling them off the shelf because they contain a plastic that was found to be toxic in one study. Nalgene is changing their bottles to omit the plastic in question. (The same plastic is also found in many baby bottles) I have never noticed a 'plastic taste' to water in a Nalgene bottle.

Kathryn- From what source did you read that about Nalgene? I have not seen that, and would like to know more facts.

Jes- you must be doing something right with your little sweeties!
