Substitutions for Tuck Jumps etc.

I just finished High Step Challenge. It was fun, fast paced and certainly left me quivering and helpless. But, I can't do those tuck jumps and aerial jumping jacks. Can anyone offer a suggestion as to what I can substitute to get the aerobic benefit, but without falling flat on my face? I have noticed these moves are in Boot Camp too.

You could just do regular airborne jumps, going as high as you can. You could do plie jacks going as deep as possible. You could do power 7s and power 15s for that blast, they'll wind ya! You could do sumo squats from Bootcamp, or the squat thrusts from Bootcamp. Or consecutive power kicks for the entire time, switching feet after 8 or 16 or 24.

My tuck jumps are pretty "tuckless," so I just do a high jump in place. For jumping jacks, I just do what I can, and either focus on height (with a tiny split) or on width (with a wider jump, maybe not even airborne, but powerful), but usually both don't go together! I am getting better, though. Just keep trying them (either lower or narrower, or alternating) and do what you can, and you will improve. (Except those tuck jumps for me...which I can only do with a tuck on the rebounder...which is another option for doing these).

I was doing I think Boot Camp (or one of the other Intensity ones)earlier this week and noticed Brenda's tuck jumps were kind of tuckless... it made me feel SO MUCH better!!! Explains a bit why she's way in the back left on that workout... :p

I'm with you guys- anything that gets my feet off the ground for any length of time is in my opinion just fine as long as I'm still pushing myself to go higher, longer, faster, etc.

Keep up the effort, and good luck!!

That's true. And if you look a Rhonda (who's taller than Cathe), she doesn't jump as high or as wide.

Sometimes you can get so caught up in what Cathe is doing, and you can't do, that you don't realize that not everyone does the moves the same way.

I just did IMAX2, for the first time on an 8"step!, and my tuck jumps look more like what that character "Stuart" does on Mad TV ("Look what I can do!"). Not a pretty site!

Good for you Kathryn!!! I can't imagine the day I'd feel confident enough in my ability to try that out with an 8 inch step!!
