~~~STS 6 Month Alumni-Jan. 9 2011~~~
Well here's my daily venting session:
Today was our annual half day retreat at work. We spent a large portion of it trying to figure out who was going to cover for me while I'm away. My good friend is going to have to work full time and I know she really doesn't want to as her kids are just little and she prefers to only work 2 days/week. Made me feel so bad although they are all being wonderful about it. Another coworker is go to work more than full time for the next 6 weeks.:(:(
Left work early went and pick the kids up and took them to ds's breathing test. Still doing well but the pediatrician wants to send him for a exercise stress test and another type of test down at Children's Hospital and then back to see him again. Great, just what I need.
Came home made dinner, went for groceries. Back home did Intensity, sat down to check email, email from my mom that she's leaving Saturday for Mexico for 2 weeks:confused::confused: Okay, I thought she was going to do some up the kid's pick up while I was on JD, guess not. Second, I don't know if you remember my mom's history with Mexico. My dad died while in vacation in Mexico in 2002. Then she dated this guy for about 5 years and he ended up in ICU post heart attack in Mexico (about the time we started checking in together) he had to be come home by an air ambulance and ended up passing away. I can't believe they even let her back into Mexico, and who is she going with?? Some guy I've never even met:eek: She drives me insane sometimes.
So what's the movie about Rachael??
Cendrine Hopefully the RX works quickly for you? Do you find the skin itchy?
Body Max is on the schedule for the day today. It's too long of a workout to fit in before work so did everything except the upper body weights hopefully will squeeze that part in between supper/ds's hockey game tonight.
Jo Drive safely on those icy roads!
Good Thursday afternoon.
We had a little job to go do this morning so I had to get up and get moving right off this morning. It was Intensity for me today and I only could fit in the step portion because I ran out of time. I kept tell myself that I might could come home and do the Hiit portion but then I went to work and pulled carpet for 2 hrs so I think I will just call that my Hiit for the day. It was as hard as Hiit but it does get tiresome being bent over and pulling even if it does come up easy.
Right now we are just kind of on call I guess you could say. It is not my favorite but until we have a big job we just have to take the little things as they come in. Today's was a demo on a little Dr.'s clinic here in town. It was kind of ideal really since DH had a check up at the dentist and that was right across the street. So we got to work and he got me started and then I continued while he walked across the street and had his check up. The only thing is that he did not set up another appt. for the rest of the wisdom teeth to come out...:rolleyes: I kind of had a feeling that was going to happen. LOL
Cendrine-It is hard not to go a little more when we are feeling our oats.;) Did your chiro say anything about doing something differently or are you still cleared for what you are doing? I was going to comment on your comment about the stiff neck but I forgot. I have been having a stiffness in my neck for a while now. It has made me very aware of how much I tense that area when I am lifting or doing certain ab moves. I really try hard not to but I am struggling with that.
My DH suffers from mild psoriasis and he is battling it a little on his nose. It seems to really have flared up during our really dry winter we are having. He really hates it too so I kind can feel your pain a little through his experience. He is lucky though because his dad has it really bad and has his whole life so he is lucky to have just these very minor occurrences.
Kim-Rant all you want...if any one deserves to vent it is you. Surely your co-workers know you would much rather have your life be regular right now and certainly wouldn't want to disrupt their schedule if you had a choice. I know it is human nature though that they might feel animosity but maybe it will be toward the situation more than toward you. Maybe the extra money they will be making with the OT will help lighten their mood a little toward the situation a little. At least for them, it is not forever, just six weeks.
I can not believe your mom would WANT to go back to Mexico. Her track record there doesn't seem like good times. I am sorry she is not going to be there to help out with the kids. Is your DH going to be able to adjust his schedule at work any during the time you have JD?
Jo-I know you are out there...just giving you a shout out.
OK the movie is just a short so it not really a movie, I guess. It takes place in a graveyard with 2 men who have passed away. There is a woman (being the part I don't want...haha) who shows up at the grave yard to deliver a box. It is kind of one of those artsy sort of things. It definitely does not come across in the description but I think it seems like it will turn out really well if he can get the right emotions to come across on film.
OK I am trying a new recipe out today...Eating Well's King Ranch Casserole. Keeping my fingers crossed.
Have a great day!
30/30 Hiit and stability ball abs today for me. I did very well on the pikes, which was very encouraging! I think it also means that my back is getting better, because I figure, the stronger my abs are, the less strain on the back, right?
Rachel, I am doing everything by the book, literally... I don't do any of the exercises the book says not to, and am even extra careful with any twisting. It says not to do stuff that requires bending and twisting at the same time. Since I find it hard sometimes to know just what constitutes as both in one move, I have been avoiding twisting alltogether. Better safe than sorry... the only thing I'm doing that the chiro doesn't recommend is the vest, but that was more for the all over alignment not specifically a nono for my lower back issue.
Kim, I feel your steam! Totally understand! Will you get to meet your mom's friend before she goes to Mexico? :confused: i hope the tests for ds won't be too timeconsuming and will come back normal!
waving at you Jo!
Good morning, TGIF!!!
Finished off Body Max upper body yesterday before ds's hockey game and this morning I did MMA Boxing. It's supposed to be a double workout day so we'll see if I get Muscle Max done this evening. This was a hard workout week, looking forward to a rest day tomorrow!
Rachael I think the 2 hours of carpet pulling qualifies you to skip the HITT! LOL on DH not setting up the appointment! How did the casserole turn out?
Cendrine High 5's on the pikes!
I had a chance a talk with my mom as ds's hockey game. So I guess what happend is this guy is someone she has known casually for about 2 years. I didn't know his name but I do remember her going to a few events with him. I guess he phoned her and invited her to Mexico as he had a found a good last minute deal. DH thinks we should find him and ask him if he has a will made out:rolleyes::rolleyes: She seems excited so that's good.
My manager informed me yesterday that the hospital lawyer has sent a letter to the judge to try and get me excused. It kind of annoys me that they did that without asking or informing me. I feel like I've got over the initial shock and have worked out work/personal details and I'm now ready to serve and now the hospital is getting involved? It doesn't feel right but we supposed to hear today.
Yes I agree TGIF...I am not quite sure why for me but this week has seemed sort of hectic. I guess the weather and then the spur of the minute job and then the workouts have been pretty intense too.
Now if it would just warm up. I really don't know how yall (Jo and Kim) go through months of weather like this but I guess it is all in what you are used to.
Todays workout was BM for me too. It seems like I may have never done this workout. I know for sure I hadn't done it all the way through so it was kind of interesting to do one I haven't done before.
Tomorrow I am not sure how it wil play out. I will have to get up super early to get in one of the workouts but I am hoping I will be able to fit in at least 30 min of some cardio too that way I feel like I have some what completed the week like it was written. My GF has the boxing dvd too (that she is not using:rolleyes:)so I will have to sub something for that too.
Kim-That was a little shady of the hospital to go behind your back...It is always the way that right when you are getting used to something, it changes. It sounds like you might be getting excused from JD now.
The casserole was great but I knew DH wouldn't like it so I had to fix him something different. I will try to post the recipe if I remember on Sunday.
Cendrine-Now that you have the book it seems like you are really making progress so it is great that you happened upon that. I think if alot more people would try to help themselves a little like you are doing there might not be as many people just "laid up". I know not all injuries to the back can be fixed in such ways but I think alot of people's problems have a lot to do with being so sedentary. I am sure that doesn't make me a genius though, right? LOL
Jo-Shout Out! LOL!
Wish me luck that I don't freeze tomorrow! Have a great Night!
Disk 3 done second time around and ss tm walk. It was a good workout, but I felt like I tweaked my back on one of the stretches. So am taking some advil to counteract any ensuing inflammation. I was at Whole Foods today and decided that my lunch was going to come from the juice bar.... and I decided since it was going to be my lunch to make it a 32oz cup....:eek: It was great, but the ginger they juiced into it was really hot, so I might skip ginger next time. How can you tell when ginger is hot and when it's not?? Because sometimes it tastes great in whatever I put it in and other times it really brings on the heat...:confused: I haven't figured out how to tell the diff....
Kim, LOL about the will! I'm glad you got a chance to talk to your mom! And I think I would feel a bit like you, about the hospital suddenly taking over. But if you do get off, it will be great for the move!
Rachel, I'm glad its Friday too! Seems we all are working out harder than usual... I'd love to see that recipe for the casserole!
Hey, Jo, I sure hope you get some r&r this weekend! And you still need to tell us about your shoulder!
Muscle Max done this evening and I am tired and ready for bed. Waiting for ds and DH to get home from hockey to see how it went then I'm done. My dd ran on the tm while I was doing MM, she did 2 miles! We were watching a video from the Disney world half marathon which was last weekend and I was saying that we should do it next year as a family so she's starting to trainhttp://cathe.com/forum/images/smilies/tongue.gif
Is your ds still doing some running on the tm Cendrine? Sure hope that's it's just a little tweak and nothing more in your back! I'm not really a fan of ginger except as pills to prevent motion sickness before I go on the rollercoasters at Disney:p
It doesn't sound like anything changed with the jury duty. I talked with the jury office to see what was going on, and he laughed and said he has to deal with the lawyers from the city's hospitals about once a month. He said they routinely try to get their staff off but that it rarely happens at this point. I was just doing so well with pretending that the whole situation wasn't happening that I'm kind of annoyed with my manager for getting me all worked up about things yesterday when it sounds like it really wasn't anything.
Rachael So how did you like Body Max? I think it's one her hardest workouts! I'm always exhausted by the end. I think the rest of the crew were exhausted too as they didn't stick around for the abs section,LOL What's the forecast in your neighbourhood? Do you still have snow on the ground. We got 10 cm today, slow driving to and from work. Going to get cold over the weekend, -30s' I'll take the clear/cold over the warm/snowy days anytime much easier driving (as long as the car starts:rolleyes:) Do you know that we plug our cars in at night when it's cold?
Going for an hair appointment tomorrow, I haven't been for ever, lots of grey for some reason;)
Only 17 days till we move! The basement is looking great. The drywall is done, walls are painted and woodwork is completed. In the next 2 weeks we need flooring, light fixtures, sinks/toilets and a garage door. It's getting so close:p:p:p:D:D:D
Rain OUT...You can't really shoot a movie in the rain. It stinks because I got up at 4AM only did the MM, no boxing because I was afraid I would run out of time. Then when I was making breakfast I realized it was raining but wasn't sure yet if it would last or if DH would want to anyway so I got all the way ready...Full makeup by 7:30...This is alot of make up on my face right now...LOL And now here we are...Called off, so all made up and in my pj's.:D
OK that was my morning. I did rock out the abs in MM. First I thought I wouldn't do them so I would have time to get ready, then I thought I would quit after obliques then I realized there was just a little left so I went for it and finished. I was really feeling my granola ;) and know I could have busted out some cardio but now I don't want to sweat up my freshly washed hair.:rolleyes:
Kim-When you work out 2 times a day do you wash your hair both times? I tried just rinsing mine out but it still feels icky so right now I am just running a little shampoo through the scalp area so I am not drying out all my hair but I am curious to know what you do.
I am getting very excited for you to move into your house. Is DH going to be doing the unpacking or are you going to use that as some destressing after your days at jury duty?
I had never heard about the ginger pills and motion sickness...I get terrible car sickness and wonder if that would help me. I have used dramamine (sp) before and I think it helped when we rode the ferry or the airplane but I would like a more natural solution.
Oh and I was definitely exhausted by the end of BM but was determined to finish...it must be a start of the new year thing or something.
Cendrine-I am not sure if there is a way to tell if you are getting hot ginger or not. Kind of like sometimes a jalapeno is hotter than others...it might be the same thing. Your big juice sounds great though...I love hot stuff. Dh thinks I am a glutton for punishment but I tell him it does not effect me like it does some people (in the bathroom department)
I hope your back is feeling less tweaked today. I have tweaked myself on a stretch too and wondered how in the heck did I get through all the hard stuff unscathed and then end up hurting myself on the relaxing part.:rolleyes:
I am going to post the casserole and hope maybe you can tell me what you might do to make it more vegetably...I added a lot of onions and peppers but it still fely more like I was eating a snack then a one dish dinner. I thought maybe adding some lightly sauteed spinach or something. Just don't know.
Jo-I know all is well and you are just busy...looking forward to hearing from you when you have the time.
King Ranch Casserole
1 1/2 cups chicken broth
1 cup non fat milk
1/2 cup All purpose flour (I used 1/3 cup flour but wondered about ww flour)
1/2 cup nonfat yogurt
1 14 oz can diced tomatoes, drained
1 4oz can green chilles, drained
1/4 fresh cilantro or parsley
1 T Chili powder
1 tsp oregano
1/2 tsp cumin
1/8 tsp salt
Fresh ground pepper to taste
1 1/2 tsp canola oil
1 large onion
1 red or green pepper
2 cloves garlic
2 cups diced chicken, cooked
10 corn tortillas, quartered
1/2 cup low fat cheese
Preheat oven to 375
Bring broth to simmer. Whisk flour and milk together until smooth. Add broth to simmering broth and stir constantly until thickened and smooth. Remove from heat and add yogurt, and next 8 ingredients.
Heat oil in a nonstick pan and saute onion, peppers and garlic until crisp tender.
Line a shallow 3 qt dish (I used a 9x13) with half the tortillas. Top with half the chicken and half the onion mixture, then half the sauce. Then repeat layer and top with cheese and bake for 25 to 30 minutes until bubbly and the cheese is melted.
It did have a little bit of sweetness to it and I was wondering if that was from the yogurt. Do yall know? That was the only thing I would have liked to change as far as the flavor goes. I did freeze some to see if it would freeze well. Pre baked it was supposed to freeze well for a month so we will see if it works alright.
If you go to the Eating Well website and put the name of the recipe in it should come up and I think the are reviews and maybe suggestions. I can't remember.
I had my alarm wake me up for my workout and I just didn't feel it... So I got up, took my medicine that I'm supposed to take on an empty stomach and went back to bed... Forgot that it said not to lie down for the next ten minutes of taking it and started feeling sick...:rolleyes: Well, when the kids got up they made breakfast with dh while I did my back exercises and abs and stretch, but other than that, I declare today a rest day.
Rachel, I think the onions, peppers and yoghurt could all contribute to the sweetness of your dish, my solution would be adding more salt....:eek:LOL!
Veggies that would go well with this dish in my opinion could be corn and possibly some chopped up kale or spinach, and if you like some celery. I just sauteed peppers, onions and celery the other day and they tasted yummy together. Of course black beans would be fun too, but you already have your protein covered with the chicken.
What a bummer that you went through all the getting ready part for nothing! I hate that! And I don't do double workouts for the very reason that I don't like to shower and wash my hair twice...:rolleyes: If I do double, it will be back to back... LOL! I agree, rinsing hair just doesn't do it, so I feel your sentiments about not wanting to get your freshly washed hair sweaty again. Showering after a second workout also is taking that much more time out of the hours you have in a day, doesn't it?
Kim, your dd starting training is great! How fun! Ds hasn't been running on the treadmill because he likes jumping on the mini trampoline we got recently and likes doing the Wii just dance for kids. When he gets bored I think he will get back into a more varied routine...;)
Our park is getting fake snow today. :rolleyes: You guys must be laughing... so needless to say we will be outside today.... The Santa Anas have just kicked up (warm wind) so the snow will probably not stick around for the whole afternoon....
Hi Jo, what's your plan for the weekend?
Really? I haven't posted in days!! Well Good Morning, I'm hoping to wrap up this last week early this afternoon and then maybe I can catch up you girls. My 2:00 up late adventure has turned into 1:00 every night this week. If I wasn't doing well in Statistics, I would drop my management class, but since it's "I get it" I'm going to suffer through with both classes. So I may be a real spotty poster for the next 5 weeks. But again, the material will vary from week to week so some are more time consuming than others. Honestly I'm whipped this morning.
So with that, I apologise for not even reading posts yet and I have to get a shower. I just want you all to know I'm not abandoning our group, I just have created a "stretched way too thin" scenario for myself. Oh, and it doesn't help that I have to have all my employee reviews done by the end of the month - so that's causing me a lot of stress as well.
