stomach, legs bigger, but no change in eating or exercise!?

Seems like I go through this once and awhile, but in the fall after I stopped breastfeeding it was the worst it had ever been, then I got stricter, and after a few months felt much better, NOW it's out of control!? I am completely confused!?!?!?! I know we need to change things up (which is why I just started INSANITY) but I don't understand why I would gain weight, or get thicker?? I've seriously not deviated in my eating, I am an 90% super healthy eater with occasional "cheats" here and there. I exercise every day 1 hr to 1 1/2 hours with CATHE, weights and cardio....60 minutes in the zone (I use a HR monitor) I'm getting insane about this!!! Help!!!!! Even if it's just moral support. I can't really talk to the people in my life about it b/c they don't get it, they don't work at it like I do. I just started INSANITY and I'm hoping this will help, but I'm nervous about the shorter cardio, so I've added some elliptical to keep me in the zone longer. help!

This happens to me over the winter months even though I eat no diff and exercise just as hard. My hubby says it's the cold weather and my body trying to insulate itself with fat to keep warm! I'd rather be cold! Ha! It is frustrating. I don't have any answers since I battle it too but thought I'd give you a lil' moral support. Just keep at it. I'm sure your heart, lungs, circulation and bones thank you! :D

I had the same thing happen to me this winter/spring. In about March I put on about 8 pounds, all around the hips, thighs, stomach. God knows why. Like you, nothing much had changed in my eating or exercise really. Last week, I realized that same weight had gone again, just as suddenly as it came on. If anything, due to injury, I had been doing less exercise. Maybe it was all burned off in nervous energy since the stress levels in this house have been horrendous recently.

Sometimes, I gain about 5 pounds when I begin a lot of weight training, not necessarily heavy weights either, just more weight training in terms of frequency. And sometimes I think it's just that winter cushioning effect Debbie mentioned. Hate it, hate the tight jeans feeling, but I don't know what to tell you.

I do, however, sympathize!

I just posted about this same problem. I'm going thru this right now too, I HATE it!! It is so darn frustrating! I just started insanity last week and have had this problem since I started. I remember doing this when I first started working out with Cathe's workouts. Back then I posted about it an remember someone saying it has something to do with your muscles retaining extra fluid as a protectant because they are being worked in new and different ways when starting a new program. If I remember correctly it lasted about two weeks or so. But even with knowing this, it still frustrates the h*** out of me.

Thank you so much for your responses. I'm sorry for those who are experiencing the same thing, but it also helps me feel like I'm not going crazy. So unbelievably frustrating. I only started insanity on Monday so it's not from that, I'm actually hoping it will make the change! Good luck everyone.
