Starting P90X?

I started P90X yesterday. I always hear how it doesn't have enough leg work should I add more leg work durin each week? My butt needs some help.

Steph

I would give it at least one week of the regular P90X schedule before adding in anything. Are you doing Classic or Lean? I'm on round 4 of P90X now, and I typically add in an extra leg workout on Tuesdays (I start day 1 on Mondays w/ Chest & Back). And I often times add on some floorwork (Butts & Guts or Legs & Glutes) one day a week.

HTH, feel free to email me if you have any more questions about P90X!

I agree with Jess, do it first without anything extra and then add in. That said, I've been doing P90x for a couple of years and I always add in one extra glute/leg workout per week.

IA with the previous posters and start out with the rotation as is, and then add on later. I have added on leg work as well. The PlyoX really works your legs. }( I just started my last phase (first time doing a P90X rotation)!! :) I really enjoyed it...well, let's not get crazy. LOL! ;-)

Have fun. :)

I just started week 3 of phase 1. This is my first time doing P90X and I'm following the classic program. I agree with everyone's response to follow the program as laid out and add in more leg work at a later phase. I know the leg workout is not as intense as Cathe's w/o's but doing plyos, kenpo and yogaX all contribute and sometimes it is good to switch things up.

That said....I cheated today and did CC6 Sean instead of plyos because I just needed my Sean fix}( Plus I'm running in the Race for the Cure on Mother's Day and I need to get some running time in.

Good luck!

JJ

PS..Jess- You are such a sweetie. Always helping with P90X questions and many of your posts have been very helpful to me.

Aww, thanks! I remember having a million questions when I started out and these lovely ladies helped me too! And I don't consider CC6 *cheating*, just subbing. ;-) I often sub in Cathe's kickboxing, CoreMax, or something else if I don't feel like the X. (yes, it happens! ;-) )

So how are things going for you?? Almost to recovery week, yeah! I'm on week 2 of Phase 1, round 4 now! }(

Hey Jess!

Oops..I also "subbed" coremax this week cuz I was getting bored with ARX.

My main question is how to handle the pull-ups in chest/back. I can do about 5 chin-ups unassisted but I need to rest a few seconds in between and only 1-2 unassisted close grip pull-ups. Forget about the wide grip..I don't think those will ever get easier. Do you think it is better to do unassisted with a rest or use the chair and bang 'em out like the crew does? They are still really hard with the chair and sometimes all I can do is 8-10. With all the push-ups & pull-ups, I get so wiped out that I'm not even getting a chance to do any negatives. I'm currently lifting weights in the 12-15 rep range and thought I would bump it up to heavier weights in an 8 rep range for the next two phases. Kinda following the STS format.

Thanks again for your help!

JJ

Personally, I started using the chair for unassisted ones until I built up the strength to do full ones. (it took me my 1st round to do full chinups, and in my 2nd round I was able to do the wide & close grip ones). I always pause the DVD because my chinup bar is in my bedroom doorway upstairs (only place it will work in my house, doors are all too close together!). So I just do as many full ones as I can, then use the chair for a few assisted ones just barely using the chair and do the last couple negatives. Even when you're using the chair, you're still using those muscles and getting in a great workout! If you need to rest, do it! And then do some more. I try to stick to the 8-10 rep, I like to lift heavier! :) HTH! It's worked well for me!

WOW..I'm impressed! The wide grip ones are killer. Good for you!

Thanks for the advice. I will keep doing as many unassisted as I can then use the chair. My goal is to eliminate the rest in between reps but it ain't happening yet. All in good time.

How is your toe? Sending {{{good vibes}}} so you can heal quickly.

Oh, they're still tough!! I can get 5 wide ones in a row on a good day!! ;-) Yep, just keep it up.

Thanks for asking!! I posted on one of the running threads, but I actually ran 4 miles this morning!! I know, I must be crazy but it didn't feel so bad once I started running. I needed my runner's *high*.... almost 3 weeks off was enough for me! }( My toe's a little tender and swollen this afternoon but well worth it!

Keep me posted on your pullup progress.
