Starting again, need some help!

Okay, so I have allowed myself enough breaks, and excuses so I've decided to take off this excess weight and start getting serious again about exercising. I need to loose about 50 lbs. overall and I would like to get my 'fit' self back again. I have almost all of Cathe's tapes, with the exception of the last two series. Can someone either help out with a rotation or point me in the right direction? I get very bored doing the same rotation every week. I like to mix things up a bit. And suggestions, comments, anything would be greatly appreciated! I admire all of you, for working so hard to make your lives better by being fit and healthy. I want to get there too!

Hi Deni,
Have you had your Cathe tapes long enough to know what your favorites are? If so, you could start out by alternating your favorite Cathe cardio's with your favorite total body weight tapes with maybe one circuit type workout thrown in there. For example:
Day 1: Circuit(by circuit I mean incorporating cardio & weights in one workout-might not be "technically" correct term) tape such as Body Max or Circuit Max
Day 2: Cardio
Day 3: Total Body Weight
Day 4: Cardio
Day 5: Cardio
Day 6: Total Body Weight
Day 7: Rest
To keep the variety in your cardio pick out one interval(Imax 1 or 2), one such as CTX Kickbox or Cardio Kicks or incorporate some hi/lo, and one steady state cardio such as RS or Step Heat. Just some thoughts. I'm sure you will get many great ideas! Welcome back!

Edited to say...I just read that you do not have the last two series so I took out those suggestions....oops! By the last two series do you mean Intensity seires and Body Blast series or do you mean Body Blast and High Step series? If you have the Intensity series BC could be done on Day 1 as could C&W.

Deni:

congrats to you for jumping back on the baandwagon. It takes grit and determination and a certain humility in the beginning.

I differ from the previous poster in that I don't recommend going all out for a 6 days on/1 day of rest rotation when you are first starting back with Cathe. When I start back again, which is frequently, I always make the mistake of underestimating how tired I will be in the first two weeeks. Just working out at all is very tiring as all of your muscles have to get used to it again, even if you just do cardio and not weight training proper. So, I would shoot for 4 workouts for the first two weeks, then 5 for another two weeks, then increase if you want.

I usually find cardio easier than weights, so I start off with 3 cardio sessions the first two weeks (keeeping it at Step Heat and Step Fit to begin with), and 1 total body weight training session, such as MIS or PS. Then I shift to doing 2 days of weight training with PS legs and CTX upper body or PUB and PLB from the I-series combined with 3 cardios (usually Rhythmic Step, Powermax, etc).

After a month of this I am back in the swing and can do whatever I want and as much or as little as I want because by then the machine is well oiled.

Good luck to you,

Clare

I didn't mean to imply that you have to go all out for six days straight. Just giving you a rotation idea. You could also only do part of a cardio workout if you wanted to workout for 6 days. It depends on you and how you feel. When I first started working out I did go all out b/c it was new and exciting and I was using light weights so I felt energized instead of tired. Everyone is different. If I had stuck to only two cardio workouts I would have gotten bored fast so you may want to mix it up more than that since you've stated you get bored doing the same rotation. That is why I left it kind of general. Anyway, good luck in deciding what is right for you!
