Stay away from the hot dogs, it is know that most of the time, they buy the cheapest hot dogs avaiable so they have a huge quanity to feed everyone who orders them. The cheaper the hot dog, the worse the stuff is in it. As they are usually mixed with pork and beef, so they are extra greasy. The reason I know is my friend use to work at a lot of the big fairs and rodes that come to down, and they always demanded that she buy the cheapest, unless she wanted to make up the difference herself. Also the pork and beef have a mega dose of salt, so if you get one make sure you cover it up, or you might not be able to choke it down. My father couldn't, with the last hot dog he orders that was pork and beef, and this is the man who puts salt on everything. You name it, he puts salt on it. On his pizza, in his coke, salad, in his ketchup, etc. So if you like salt you might, be able to eat a pork and beef dog at the rodeo.
If they have chicken or turkey dogs go for those, they taste about the same and half the grease and fat. I even managed to sneak them in on my father who if you sat it front of him and he had not ate for 2 days and you told him it was a turkey dog would not eat it. But thinks they are his wonderful all beef hot dogs as I don't let him see the package. I actually think they taste better, as I have a very delicate and fussy taste buds that usually don't like much of anything.
Also you may want to go for some light pop corn to fill up so you don't eat a lot of greasy food for dinner. Also make sure you go during the dinner rush and be some where in the middle of it, do not be one of the first, as usually they pre cook things and you got more grease then you bargained for. But if you can be in the middle where the pre-cooked stuff is gone, then your better off. Also you may want to look for restrants while your headed toward the rodeo, just in case you don't find anything to eat, or the food is really horrible which happens. Or maybe I'm just a picky eatter that is too choosy about how things taste.
They are going to offer you things that take very little or not time to cook, or prepare, which usually amounts to junk. Which is the reason to fill up on pop corn and then just eat half of a greasy sandwich or whatever you can get a hold off. Also soft pretzels, is a good idea of you like them. But really do try to bring your lunch, even in a small purse, you can take quite a bit. When I bag it at an outting, I usually have two or three bags of baby carrots, 2 Tsp of peanunt butter, and 1 Tsp of jelly and two slices of whole wheat bread in my purse, and then some fruit I've already cut up and put in a bagy, and then wrap the veggies and the fruit up in a cloth and put a cool pack on it, toss the tiny containers of peanunt butter and jelly on top and then store the bread standing up in the other compartment, very well sealed in a ziplock bag, put a knife and a fork in and I'm set for lunch and it doesn't take much room. I have one of those purses that you carry by the handles that is short and squat. You just have to make sure everthing is in a contrainer that fits what you take and doesn't take up much room which is way zip lock bags are my favorite. If I didn't have those I would be really out of luck and never would find anything to eat when I was out with friends.
If you got one of those cute little mini bookbag purses, you could back the whole family this way, all but the drinks. As I the one I have. In college, myself and 5 other friends, would go out to different events we'd buy a drink and then we'd eat our own food that we packed into my bookbag purse. and there was always enough room for my wallet and keys. And packing for two college boys who eat a lot, that's say a lot.
It was nothing to have some crackers and can cheese and then some fruit and veggies and peanut butter. Or if we had the cold packs, we had some type of meat and mayo and have great health sandwiches.
Just go look in your purse and take everything out you will not uses at the rodeo, and you'll probably find quite a bit of places to put food.
