Stability Ball

I know this seems a strange question, but is there a difference in stability balls? I have the one that came with my Core Secrets stuff (ended up finding the workouts pretty boring) and the material seems really "squishy".

I see the balls in Cathe's workouts and they seem a little more firm. When I sit on the ball it squishes down pretty far (but I still have a 90 degree angle in my legs). I have tried to pump more air into it and it doesn't help, the ball still squishes! I think that could be why I have such a hard time with pikes, but I am not sure as they are very new to me. In fact the whole stability ball thing is new to me!

Thanks!

Amy, that's the same stability ball I have. Mine is a little squishy but I think it's normal to have a certain amount of squish. By the way, I absolutely agree with you about the Core Secrets workouts. I think what's-his-name is the most boring fitness instructor to ever make a DVD--lol! AND the workouts are OK but not great.

If you want a new ball I'd get one that's burst resistant. Here's a link to some good stability balls:

HTH:)

There are differences in stabilty balls. I have the Core Secrets ball, and it's a bit squishier than some. My Dura Ball pro is hard as a rock! (almost). Another ball I had was a bit in-between the two.

As for having trouble with the pikes: a bit squishier ball actually makes them easier, while a firmer ball adds more of a balance challenge. You're probably having a hard time with pikes because they are a tough exercise! They call into play not only your core, but your shoulder girdle and upper body.

Yes, there is a difference in stability balls. I initial bought a Reebock branded ball and had the same problem you had with squishiness. I then bought a Gaiam branded ball from Dick's that's much more substantial and seems to hold air better.

Thanks, it's nice to hear that the pikes are actually a difficult exercise and that I'm not a wuss!!!;) I actually am able to do them on my elbows (which isn't such a lovely site, but still works the core!), but am way too shaky when I try to move up to my hands.

Thanks also for the input on the balls. I know that being more squooshy is better to start with, but I feel like I don't get the right support, that's all.

I have the Core Secrets ball too. At first I didn't think I liked it. It's slightly bigger than the one Cathe uses (and not a pretty red either. :-( ) But I guess I'm used to it now and I do better on it as time goes by - even with the pikes!
