Stability Ball

Alright, I am really frustrated!!!

Why is all work on a stability ball really hard? I consider myself an advanced exerciser and I cannot believe how horrible I am on a stability ball. I can do weight bench type exercises easily, but doing a simple bridge with one leg lifted becomes impossible!!!

Recently I acquired some new stability ball workouts and have noticed within them that the stability balls in the videos seem to never "sink down" when the exercisers sit on them. They barely look like there is any weight on them at all. I am sorry, but mine always seems to give quite a bit, even totally full of air. AND, I have three different kinds of balls....thin balls, thick balls...blah...blah...

I really am starting to think that those balls in the videos must be filled with sand or something when they sit on them. One of the tapes has a girl doing tricep dips off the ball and the ball never moves!! I consider myself strong, but my ball was so instable underneath me that it seemed rather dangerous to even try the exercise! Plus, my hands were sinking deep into the ball (and that is my duraball). Doesn't seem like with your feet on the floor doing tricep dips that it is core instability/weakness that is keeping me from being able to properly execute this move. It seems like it is impossible!!

I just don't understand how the balls in the vids always look so firm and tough. Does anyone have one that is perfectly still for all these exercises??

I am going to do two all stability ball workouts a week just to see if I can really do this. It bugs me BIG TIME that I can't!

Janice, its sound to me like you don't have enough air in your ball. the instructions I got was to put enough air in it that your finger would only sink down about 2 inches at the most. When I do the PLB exercises my foot always sits on top of the ball, it doesn't sink down into it......... I think you need to check the air in yours... Rhonda:7

Rhonda..

I am deathly afraid of overinflating it!! I did that with one of mine once and afterwards I would fill it (after it would leak some) and it never would really feel as full or tight, like I stretched the material or something.

Don't some of you find that if you fill the ball full enough to be nice n' tight and keep your legs at 90 degrees when sitting, that it is too full when you try to lean back on it like a table top? Then I am too high (my body isn't flat). Does that make sense?

Janice, I bought my ball from the same place cathe and the crew buys theirs, and no I am not afraid of over inflating it, mine is suppose to be burst resistant. I fill it as full as I can possibly get it. If it loses air over time I refill it.
I got mine about 7 months ago I would say or maybe 6 months ago, and have had no problem with it so far.
I don't think you have to worry about over inflation if it feels to full take some air out, but put enough air in it that it will work right.............. Rhonda :7

All I can say is MEASURE that ball. Make sure it has all the air it's supposed to have, and measuring is the ONLY way. Now, if I could only remember how my DH measured it...if no one else responds to you, I'll ask him when he calls today...

Mine came with a plastic tape that goes all the way around the ball when it is properly filled. It scared me, filling it up that much, but it works great, and it didn't burst, so I guess the little measuring tape was right.
