OK, it's my turn to ask for input!

I'm surprising SO and taking him out on the town to AC the second weekend in August. He has NO clue, and I'm really hoping to pull off this surprise. I've NEVER been there before and want to go!

SO......where should we stay?

Anything you recommend to do, see, eat, etc???

We'll be there Saturday and Sat evening and into Sunday early evening.

Thanks in advance.

Gayle

Besides gambling, ??? My dh says that the Borgata has a good reputation. He also recommends staying at Harrahs or the Borgota. He's not fond of their beach or boardwalk.

Hi Gayle.

I love AC. }(

It depends on what you are looking for...

If you want a quieter atmosphere then definately stay off the boardwalk and stick with Harrahs or whatever. If you want to be able to casino hop easily and take advantage of the beach and the boardwalk and don't mind possible crowds, go with one of the boardwalk hotels. The boardwalk hotels have more bus trips invade them then the non-boardwalk hotels. I've been frequenting Trump Plaza (on the boarwalk) and really enjoy it there. Lots of the casinos now have nightclubs and if you and SO are into that. They all offer shows of all kinds which you can purchase tickets to. Boardwalk Hall is there too so you might want to check out who's playing there that you might want to get tickets too! The nicer restaraunts have wonderful food but are definately pricey if you have to pay cash for them.

HTH a bit!:)

The Borgata is without a doubt the nicest AC hotel. The only problem with it (and Harrah's for that matter) is they're not clustered w/the other casinos--they're not even on the boardwalk. You can always take a cab but IMO it's much more convenient to stay close to all the other casinos & the boardwalk (if, of course, gambling's the reason you're going, & I can't imagine any other reason to go to AC, plus the boardwalk can be both fun & fattening). It's definitely not a city in which walking is common. Running, however, is very common, & 99% of the time someone is chasing you. ;-)

I haven't really stayed in any other hotels than the Borgata (I have a stupid convention there every year). I asked a gambling friend (she's there at least 4 times a year), she said Bally's is probably the best--centrally located & recently renovated. She said Resorts has some new towers, that's on the northern end, & the Tropicana (southern end) is relatively clean.

Have fun, wherever you stay! :)

WOW! Thanks!

I'm looking to be centrally-located to the casinos and the beach. I would love to get SO to a show as well. He is a night owl, so the nightlife is fine with us. The only requirement I require is a workout facility! lol

Gayle,

I think pretty much all of the casino hotels have a fitness facility. You will have to check the rules as you might have to pay a fee per day to use it. Some allow it for free so long as you are an overnight guest at the hotel but it depends on where you are staying...

Sounds like you need a boardwalk hotel!!!}(

I almost forgot to add....

Most of the casinos also have a lounge or 2 on the casino floor level where they have bands/play music. It's another option if you don't want to actually go to a dance club but want some nightlife. There are also several casino owned beach bars now. Lots of options!}(

Oh and how could I forget...a short walk away from the strip and there are the Atlantic City outlets!!!! Then there is the Pier Mall owned by Caesars Palace which is right on the boardwalk. Lots of high end stores, restaraunts and bars.

HAVE FUN!!!!!

Hi Gayle,

I just got back from AC. We took a family rode trip there. We always stay at the Borgata. (My sis gets free rooms, she is the gambler in the family.) The rooms are nice and now the new water club tower is open which looks beautiful but is more pricey.

The pump room(fitness room) is $10.00 a day to use at the hotel. But directly behind the hotel is great walking path.

I like being off of the boardwalk. There is a bus called the Jitney that is $2.00 a person and can take you to the other casinos, the outlets and the boardwalk.

Have Fun.

Oh yeah, the Borgata's gym is the best I've ever seen in a hotel. I stayed in Harrah's once before & the gym didn't even open until 10 am, so that's something you'll probably want to check.

Wendy, OMG, how much do you love those outlet stores! I don't know when they were built--I moved out of state for 7 years, I came back & there they were! Now THAT'S a reason to take a trip to AC! :)
