Speaking of Sci-Fi

Hi all,

I am trying to find a book that I read eons ago, well actually sometime in the late '70's probably '77 or '78. I believe it was called The Bridge. The plot evolved around the premise that society became so "eco-correct" that it was a crime to cut your grass, step on a bug, eat anything that was not chemically produced, etc. The world became overgrown with plant life and the insect population swarmed out of control, yet it was still determined that humans were so dangerous to the environment that the majority of the population was to be exterminated.

I have tried searching for the book on line but there must be about 100,000 books with the title The Bridge.

If anyone out there remembers this book or has any helpful hints on how I can do a more comprehensive search, I would appreciate any light that you can shine on my memory lapse.

Thanks in advance.

I don't remember that particular book but in high school (in 1985 or 86) I got to take science fiction as one of my english classes. I have to say that many of those stories have stayed with me to this day. I have tried a couple of times to find the text book we used as it was so interesting.

Sci Fi writers always amaze me since they often come fairly close. I remember one story that seemed so far-fetched. It was a future where everyone interacted in virtual worlds and never interacted in person or left their houses, hmmm.

That sounds like the new movie "Surrogates" with Bruce Willis. I believe it's based on a graphic novel though.
