sore abs after upper body weight work

Hi Cathe. Yesterday I did my usual weight routine, PS style-a bit slower though, chest, shoulders and back. I used about 45lbs plus a bar, which I have been doing for months. I started doing crunches today and noticed my abs are very sore. This is the first time I have noticed ab soreness after doing this type of work. Do you suppose my abs are sore from stabilizing my body while I am doing chest presses? I didn't do any more crunches after I noticed the soreness just in case this is not related to soreness and is actually injury due to bad form or something. Any input is appreciated.

I've never gotten sore abs from upper body work, but when I first read the subject of your post, I figured it probably was from core stabilization. If you pulled a muscle some other way, don't you think you'd have noticed? I tend to feel a little sore way up under my rib cage after doing planks and that is stabiliztion. Jeanne

Yes. I think you are right. The soreness is probably due to my small body trying to handle a proportionately large amount of weight. I thought perhaps others had similar experiences. Thanks for your input. Rachel
