Sole of foot cramping????

Hi everyone!! Lately, as I workout (cardio) I notice that the sole of my left foot cramps really bad going all the way up to the bottom of my toes. It hurts to put weight on it. When I was doing my Max rotation I noticed the top of my left foot hurting right where the toes and foot met. Now it has gone to the bottom. Has anyone else had this problem?? Or does anyone know what this is? It won't go away until I stop exercising and even then it can take quite a while to fully relax. Any enlightenment on this would be greatly appericated:)!!

Thanks in advance!!

Aimee

I've seen an exercise where you stand on an open towel and scrunch it all up towards you using only your toes. Of course, you can do this without the towel. Also, walk barefoot as much as possible to strengthen your tiny foot muscles. Give yourself a good foot massage using oil or lotion. I guess it could very well be some orthopedic thing, and so if all else fails, you could see a podiatrist, but maybe the muscles and/or the tendons and ligaments are just weak and need some special attention.

Thanks!! I'll try the towel exercise for a while and see if that helps. As for the barefoot thing, my husband tells me I'm a certified hillbilly!! I don't wear shoes unless absolutely necessary:)!

Hi Aimee!

I was wondering about your foot since we both had similar problems when doing the Max rotation. Mine is not any better, still a little swollen, but it still hurting at the same place and really doesn't go away. I am probably going to make an appt. with a ortho/sports medicine doctor next week.

So, is yours a cramp, an ache, or a shooting pain? Is it like the cramp I remember so well when pregnant. When you pointed your toes? It is hard to believe that you would have weak muscles in the foot when you do so much exercise. Sorry, I am no help.

I have also noticed the arch in my left foot starts to hurt too. This makes me wonder if I need some extra support in the shoes. Lately, I have been re-tieing and adjusting my shoes a couple of times during the workouts. ( A good excuse to take a breather hehehe!) And my shoes are only a couple of months old.

Take care,

Oh, Aimee, I hope you aren't starting to get my as-yet-undiagnosed foot problem. For several years I have had this horrible pain in my left foot that sounds very much like what you are describing. It is almost like a burning pain, in the bottome and somewhat the top of my foot in that whole toe area. My boyfriend is constantly massaging in, but it really doesn't help. It is weird, because it isn't always there--it sneaks up on me sometimes, and can depend on how I place my foot. It used to be extremely noticable when I would go down stairs, especially barefoot. Ugh. I have gotten used to it, but I really should go see a doctor--as should you! I almost feel like mine is a pinched nerve or something...
This wasn't helpful, but I just wanted you to know that I feel your pain! ;-)

I have Morton's Neuroma in my feet. Morton's Neuroma occurs when the nerves(s) between the metatarsals (the forefoot, right before the toes) become pinched. This causes the nerves to become inflamed, swollen, and, eventually, develop scar tissue around them. Some of the symtoms that you describe are characteristic of Morton's Neuroma-burning, pain, numbness, etc. Although there is no definitive answer as to why this happens, the usual reason given is from wearing shoes that are not wide enough, which causes the bones to squeeze together and irritate the nerves. There are other possible causes like wearing high heels, having wide, high arched feet, hereditary factors, high impact activities, etc. I am not saying that this is what you have but it is possible. There are many web sites that have information if you do a search. You may want to check into it or visit a doctor or podiatrist. If it is Morton's Neuroma, it will only get worse unless modifications are made and/or treatment. Something to think about, anyway. Have a good day! Hope this helps--as my podiatrist likes to say---no one should have foot pain, it is not normal.

RE: Lynn, Wendy, and Betsy,

Hi Guys!! Hmmmm....... Lynn is right about me noticing it with our Max rotation. It started on the top of the foot and I still feel if there sometimes. BTW, Lynn, I saw your post in the checkin. Looks like we're on a similar rotation. How's it going? Was your vacation good?
Wendy, It may be a pinched nerve. But boy does it every cramp up!! It feels like the muscles in the sole of my foot are just scrunching together take to curl my toes in!! I never got those while pregnant, just in the calf then, talk about pain!!
Betsy, I've never heard of Morton's neroma. But I do have a high arch, and I do do alot of high impact. As for high heels, it has to be a really special occasion to get me to dress up or in a dress for that matter;-)! I will definately keep this in mind when I go visit the doctor though.
Thank you everybody for helping me. Maybe I'll try not doing impact with my exercise and see if that helps. What do you think?

Thanks again!!
