Tackled this workout this morning. Definitely a good sweat.
I enjoyed the music with this one.
I liked that she didn't go super heavy with the weights given the pace that was kept. Most of the exercises are 12 reps. I found I could go a bit heavier on the off-the-side squats and the cross-back lunges since she only selects one weight for those, and the step height is a reasonable 3 stackers.
The fast pace had me scrambling and having to hit pause a couple times in order to switch out my SelectTech weights. Didn't mind the extra time that created, because I definitely got the intended cardio effect from the workout, so appreciated a little breather before forging on.
I think someone else mentioned that the workout feels pretty repetitive because Cathe repeats each exercise three times in this PHA. Her other two PHA workouts (from Step Boss and LITE) only repeat the exercises twice. I have to agree. By set three, i was kinda sighing and wanting to move on already. That she only repeats exercises twice through in her other two PHA workouts tells me that she probably got similar feedback and adjusted those workouts accordingly.
Some day I'd like to see her do a PHA that has no repeats, period - just alternate upper and lower the whole way through with new movements each time. I feel like there's plenty of exercise variations for most all body parts where you wouldn't need to repeat them several times in order to fill up 40-50 minutes.
It's a nice full-body workout, though - I'd consider this one more of an endurance approach. Don't think I'm going to be feeling any DOMs tomorrow, but I certainly got the cardio effect from it. I'm not sure how often this one's going to make re-appearances in my future rotations. If it does, it may be one of the premixes with everything reduced down to two sets and then I tack on something extra before or after (or not add anything and just make it a lighter day workout for the day.)
I tell you... STS 2.0 spoiled me where it comes to resistance training. I'm definitely jonesing for another go-around with that series. I do have a 6-week version of it planned after I finish out this ICE/S&S rotation. I just feel like I get more out of my resistance training workout if I'm pushing to go really heavy, instead of staying light. However, I also know that I also appreciate having lighter-weighted workouts available to fall back on in case of illness or injury, or just plain ol' burn-out or boredom. (Though I've yet to feel bored with STS 2.0!)
I think if I could choose a different workout to replace this one that would give me the same cardio effect, yet fill my desire for heavy weights, it would be her bonus LMRE download #1 Total Body Metabolic Strength workout. The really heavy metabolic work kicks up my heart rate, plus I get quite a bit of bonus core work from that one, and it's about the same length of time.
