so how's the self tanning going?

I just got my paws on some of the Jergens Natural Glow lotion and used it for the first time today. The smell wasn't as offensive as I thought it was going to be. Even though the smell reminded me of a household cleaning product, it wasn't that strong and disappeared pretty quickly. So, no verdict on this yet.

I have been using Neutrogena Build-A-Tan on my face and am very pleased with it. It looks natural and it is SPF 15. My face has not broken out and it doesn't seem to interact with my retinol product. What more can you ask??

I too tried the Jergens, but the smell and the residue feeling turned me off. But have had similar success with the Neutrogena Build-A-Tan for both face and body. The color is the most natural I've found and the face tanner is gentle enough for my pretty sensitive skin. Looks great too, with no feeling of residue at all!

I was one who gave rave reveiws of Jergins Glow but now I'm having trouble with dark patches on my elbows and two dark blob patches on each knee. Also, I have a big sock line I guess from sweating during my Cathe videos and my socks have "ring around the collar." It is a very obvious line and then it splotches so I'm giving it up and going back to my natural white color...bleh. Why does everyone look better with a little bit of color? Now the experts are saying we need 20 min. a day of unprotected exposure to the sun for vitamin D absorption so I'm thinking of 10 min. on ea. side shouldn't do too much damage? Just so I'm not pasty white. Good luck with the Jergins.

Try Tan Towels guys. I've used them for two years. No streaking, no spotching. Perfect color every time and it is your tan color not artifical as it uses proteins in your skin to create the tan. Look on their website or get them off hsn.com. That is where I get them. Wouldn't be without them.

do any of you ever get spray tans from salons? If so, did you like the results?

I'm trying the Neutrogena too. I've used it twice and both times after a few hours, I get these blotchy spots that looks like I spilled chocolate milk on myself. It washes off in the shower, so I think I'll start putting it on at night instead, then it can develop overnight and I can was the "chocolate milk" off in the morning.

I am using Coppertone Bronzing tan this year, and so far so good. Not smelly, goes on quick and easy, dries in 5 minutes and lasts about 4 days before I have to reapply. Thumbs up for me on this one.

Over the years I have tried Neutrogena with some success, but the smell always gets to me after a few hours. I really liked Ban D'Soleil, but now I can't find it anywhere, so I tried the Coppertone, which Self magazine said was the best find for 2005 in the tanning category.

I am starting to dislike the jergens too. My arms, legs and feet are all a different shade and yesterday I had to exfoliate it all off my arms and start over cuz it was patching off. My arms got REALLY dark tho and it was nice while it lasted but I found I had to use it every day or i'd be dry feeling. Now im back to my loreal sublime bronze gel. I love it cuz I dont have to wait 5 days to see a result....put it on yesterday at 7 and by 3, I was tan again. I HAVe used the spray tan in a salon but i found it worked better if I already had a little bit of a base tan. If I went there as my totally white self, I could barely even tell I got any color at all and for 17 bucks a pop it wasnt worth it. I only use the spray salon tan now for special occasions.

What are some of the tricks you all use to avoid the darkness around the knees, elbows, feet and hands? Do you put lotion on first? That seems to be my problem with this sunless tanners.

I did the spray-on tan at the salon ONCE. And never went back. Why? Because it turned me a very unnatural shade of dark orange. I am a naturally pale person, and the fact is, I probably look best that way. But I wanted to give the spray-on tan a try. The color is not "adjustable" (at least not the one I went to - the InstaBronze), so you get the same dark shade that everyone else gets. If you're naturally pale, it will be too much. People who are a little darker-skinned may have better results from this.

I always picture that episode of Friends where Ross goes to the spray-on tan booth and doesn't turn around in time to do his backside, so he gets a really dark tan on his front half and is still pasty white on his back half. LOL! That one cracked me up sooo bad! :D

yes I put lotion all over first and let it dry 10 or so minutes. For knees, I bend my leg up as far as I can so the knee "wrinkles" are minimal and just lightly swipe leftover sunless tanner over each one once. the elbows I avoid all together. My feet tend to have two rough spots on each one in the same general area so I just exfoliate that area down first. I use a spray called beach in a bottle by austrailian gold for my hands. It is the only way i can get a subtle look - you def cant get that using a lotion in this particular area. beleiev me I have had lots of practice to get this down to a science like this. :+

LOL! That episode is funny. Actually, that's why I won't go the those spray salons. LOL! That episode took care of that for me.

Still using the Jergens and having no problem. I think you do have to use it everyday though.

I know what you mean about the residue with the Jergens. I could get past the smell but I felt like it never dried on me. It also seems to have this glittery stuff in it. I may just go with the bronzer instead of trying to create a faux tan. I do like the Neutrogena face stuff though so maybe I'll try the body version. I have a feeling I'm going to spend a lot of money just to get a fake tan. Oh well, you pay more when you lie in the sun!! I'll palm the Jergens off on my sister. }(

Unfortunately I have to agree about the Jergens as well. I noticed the other day that I wore boots that go up to just under my calf and when I took them off I had a white line around my legs where the top of my boot was rubbing it off. I've also noticed that it seems to tan my arms pretty well, but gets blotchy on my legs and doesn't seem to tan my stomach and chest at all. I think I'll have to find something else.

I'm still using the Jergen's but not as often. I liked the results at first, but the smell lingered too long. I also started getting blotchy if I wasn't really careful in the application of it.

I'm using it only about twice a week to maintain the tan I got over Memorial Day weekend:eek:
