Small change/big difference

This week, I decided to get away from diet soda and granola in the morning and went to oatmeal and orange juice for breakfast. Within 3 days, my energy has improved and I am feeling better about myself. Drinking OJ gives enough energy boost that I don't need caffeine.

I've been eating oatmeal with natural p/b in it almost every morning (except for when I run out, ugh) for months now. Best breakfast ever!

Takin' it one meal at a time...;)

Good job!:D

Good for you!

Small changes like this can really make a difference in the long run.

Another step in the right direction you could take is to substitute either a whole orange or blended orange (with the fiber) for the o.j. (fruit juices are very high glycemic--maybe one reason for the energy boost--and not as healtful as whole fruits).

I know you're happy with it, but to be honest, I'd actually be concerned about that breakfast. It's all carbs, and depending on the type of oatmeal you are choosing, could be closer to simple carbs than complex carbs. There's no real protein. Your old granola was high fat, most likely, and that would have lowered the glycemic index. You'll have an energy boost, but your blood sugar will crash later and you'll be hungrier much sooner. I would recommend having an orange instead of the orange juice and have either a couple of eggs or add some unflavoured whey protein isolate into the oatmeal - and make the oatmeal steel cut oats. Some nuts or seeds would be a great idea too. You could also add berries to the oatmeal instead of having an orange.

Thanks for bringing this up. I haven't experienced the "crash" but the energy boost. In the morning, eating breakfast is a miracle on it's own and making eggs could be a challenge to consider. I have considered toast as well with peanut butter but fat is an issue. With the cold and wet weather, the oatmeal has been good so far.
From your post, I realize I need to make adjustments. Thanks.
