Does anyone do slide workouts? I'm very curious about them. Can you do a slide workout on a carpet? Where do they sell slides? Would it be good for crosstraining?

I'd love to know what you all think about this!!

Some slide info

Hi Di,
I love slide workouts. I think they are perfect for cross-training because not only are they low impact but I think they also target the inner and outer thigh muscles more than the quads.

I have tried the slide on carpet and it didn't work very well for me. Of course, I have an area rug in my basement - maybe the slide wouldn't move around a lot on wall-to-wall. The best solution I found (I use my slide in my basement on tile) is to get a rubber mat that is made to go under exercise equipment. I think my husband got it at a sporting goods store.

I know I heard that the Reebok slide was found for very little money at Reebok outlet stores. I think there might be some info about where to find the outlet stores on their website. You can also check on ebay. One disadvantage about slides and slide tapes are that they are a little hard to find because they never really caught on. My favorite slide tape is CIA 9703 - it's an pretty advanced workout but the best I've seen. It's available via CIA's website.

I hope this helps,
Judy

Slide

I like slide alot. It is a great leg workout and I can really get my heartrate up there. The only drawback is if you have any problems with your knees you shouldn't do slide. Collage Video used to sell them but I don't know if they still do.

Where to get slides....cheap

I've been meaning to post this information but haven't had the time. I bought a slide about 6 weeks ago. I think it's very good for crosstraining. It hits muscles that usually don't get a tough workout. It's a lot of fun also. I had the same problem Judy did with the slide sliding around on my carpet. I put a yoga sticky mat underneath and that helped, but it still slides around a little.

Reebok outlet stores were selling them at $9.99. A great bargin. That includes booties and an instructional tape. If you want to find a Reebok outlet store near you go to the Reebok web site - www.reebok.com. Go to the bottem lefthand corner where it says, "Ask Reebok", then go to the date of February 15. Look under the question, "Where Reebok warehouses?" (or something like that). There they list all of their nationwide Reebok stores. You can call a store near you to see if they still have them in stock. I think they are distributing the slides throughout all their stores.

As for slide tapes, they are hard to come by. There have not been a lot made, but I have tried a few. The Reebok basic slide tape is beginner/intermediate. It's good for showing you how to use the slide, but too easy if you are used to Cathe's tapes. CIA video has 9703 which is a difficult tape; it's $15, and a great workout. If CIA has any left you can get #4005 for $5. It has 4 different types of workouts, the last being a fun slide workout. It's about a 30 minute workout that's more intermediate/advanced. I use it in combo's with other things. Slide tapes also show up on e-bay on a regular basis.

Have fun for anyone who decides to get a slide! I think they are worth having for anyone who wants something different for a change.
