SLAVE TO THE SCALE

IS ANYONE OUT THERE A SLAVE TO THE SCALE? I WEIGH LIKE 4 POUNDS MORE THAN I DID THIS MORNING? THIS DRIVES ME INSANE. I WORK OUT EVERY DAY.I MUST ADMIT SOME DAYS I HAVE A HARD TIME REACHING EVEN 1200 CALORIES. ANY ADVICE? SHOULD I HAVE MY HUSBAND TAKE THE SCALE AWAY FOR AWHILE? HOW OFTEN DO YOU WEIGH YOURSELVES TO KEEP TRACK OF GAIN/LOSS? THANKS

Why are you weighing yourself twice a day? You should weigh yourself once a week if you're going to weigh yourself at all. And you're not eating enough if you aren't even managing 1200 calories a day!

I don't weigh myself. It's not good for my mental health. I go by how my clothes feel.

THANKS FOR THE INPUT. I JUST WEIGH MYSELF BECAUSE THE SCALE IS THERE. EVEN TH0UGH I KNOW BODIES FLUCTUATE IT DRIVES ME CRAZY AND IT IS BAD FOR MY MENTAL HEALTH, I KNOW. I WILL TRY AND DO ONCE A WEEK.

Maybe get DH to put the scale away and just pull it out once a week? I know it's hard once you start to not keep looking.:)

I think that it would be a good idea if DH took the scale away. Especially if you can't help yourself from hopping on it, then beat yourself up over the result!

I weigh myself a maximum of once a week - and weight can fluctuate A LOT on a daily or even weekly basis. Some people don't weigh themselves at all. Whatever the case, it shouldn't become obsessive. Sometimes when I am closer to my period, my weight may go up 5 pounds and then it's back down the following week. It doesn't help to agonize over this - it's just the natural rhythm of my body. I agree that it would help if your DH took the scale away and 1200 calories is not enough even for weight loss when someone is physically active! You may be depriving your body so much that it is shutting down and hanging on to whatever it can.

I use to be a slave to the scale. I got sick of it determining my moods for the day though. I only weigh in every couple weeks, somtimes every 3 weeks. It is only a number and I know as women, we let it bother us,me including. But the more muscle you have the more you will weigh. I have people that think I weigh like 10 pds less than I do. Point given, make it a goal to look like you weigh less than you actually do,meaning you are more toned than someone who might weigh less than you. I would rather be more lean and muscular than flabby and weigh less. Its taken me a long time to realize that I would rather be athletic, strong and lean than scrawny.
You definately arent eating enough! Increase you calories especially is you are working out alot!!

As others have said here - i go by how my clothes fit.
I dont even have a scale in my house anymore. The only time i see my weight is when i go to the dr. :)

Just chiming in to say, I have not weighed myself in 6 months....just throw it away and go by your clothes. I decided a number wasn't going to dictate my life any longer....and I am much happier for it!

Take your scale, place it under the tires of your car, and roll over it....REPEAT.

Oh yes, I've been a slave to the scale myself. I successfully kept the number low by starving my body. I could fit into small sizes too. But I was a skinny fat.

Weight lifting changed that mind set. I go by my measurements now, and not what the scale tells me. It LIES!!!
Not all weight gain is bad. Gaining muscle will make the scale go up, but your size go down. Look at Cathe! She has the tiniest hips from all that muscle. I'll bet most could not guess her scale weight.

Whenever I think the scale should dictate my health and level of fitness I repeat this quote in my head....

"I'd rather be a fit girl in a bikini than a skinny girl in a pair of jeans!"

The scale can help get you into those skinny pair of jeans. looking good out of the jeans will come from gaining muscle and feeding your body to promote a healthy composition.

This is one of my all time favorite sites. Read Why the Scale lies.
