skunk!

Okay, lucky me...I was on my way to teach a sculpting class at 6 AM and must have run over Pepe Le Peu's relative. Now my car stinks! I took it to the car wash immediately after my class and tried to spray it underneath, but I don't think it did any good. Do you think it will eventually go away? As I was driving home, I noticed a pedestrian covered his nose as I was at the stoplight! My car is now in a parking garage and I'm wondering if they will need to evacuate the garage. I guess no one will steal things from my car.

Any suggestions? I don't think there are enough cans of tomato juice to soak my car.

Sorry this happened. You might try to find a car wash that cleans the under carriage. (the touchless kind of car wash, where you pull your car into it and either the sprayers move or your car moves) I know some around me have that option. I believe with time, the smell will disapate. Having had a dog sprayed once, I can imagine what you are experiencing, but I was able to wash her with tomato juice. I would not recommend using tomato juice on your car even if you knew where the spray had hit because that could damage it due to the acid (like soda ruins a car's paint due to it's acid). As for the interior smell, you might try spraying the fabric portions of the car (rugs, seats etc) with Febreze every couple days or so until the smell leaves.

As for stealing things from your car, you might have something there. You need a bumper sticker that says, "This car protected by trained skunk. Enter at your own risk"

Hope you get the smell resolved soon. I can remember our house smelled for a while after the dog was hit and she only stayed in the garage portion for a couple of hours before I could get her cleaned up. Its amazing how that smell travels.

No, I drove back by the site of the incident and saw the (gulp) remains. The strange part is at the time of the incident I did not see a skunk at all. The car in front of me ran over what appeared to be a box and I couldn't swerve fast enough so I went over it too, so I don't know if the skunk was at some point in a box or if I was completely out of my mind. It was nearly 6 AM, raining and dark. When I drove back, I didn't see a box so I don't know--it's a mystery!

I think I am going to take it to one of those fancy car washes. They ought to love me!

Just call me...Smelly Keli

You might consider giving an auto detailing place a call and see what they can do. I fit makes you feel any better, a few years ago a septic truck um, dumped it's load all over the highway and cars, obviously unintentionally drove through the mess and apparently stunk the ranky stanky. I think the septic service had to pay for car cleanings!

Anyway, at least you weren't the poor skunk!

Beavs--too funny! You're right I am lucky--perhaps at the same level as someone who gets hit with bird droppings--so lucky! I have to confess that it really makes me laugh when I see people walk by my car and they cover their nose or scrunch up their face. You know what they say about the one who smelt it--right---yeah, may not apply to skunk.

I took it to a car washing place that charges a load of money for something that I think I should do, but this time I was more than happy to pay! It still stinks, but not as bad. Probably only an 8 on a scale of 1 to 10 --with 10 being bad.

We hit a skunk in Oct. and ran the car through one of those touchless car washes once that night and again the next day. It really didn't do a lot to eliminate the odor. I had to leave the car out in the driveway for about a week before the odor went away. What really made a difference was driving through a lot of puddles on a very rainy day. Depending on where you live, this may not be an option (it's 20 degrees here today).

The odor will go away - it just takes a week or so.....

The skunk-smelling car was still better than when the skunk got into the storage area under our deck. The whole downstairs of our house smelled like skunk for days until we were able to get him to leave.
