Skinny Jeans....

What is the verdict??

I used to think these looked AWFUL on some people, but I have seen a few girls totally pull it off and look fantastic. Anyone out there wear these? What brand?

My girlfriend wears them with ballet flats and she looks great. I don't know what brand, though.

I do have some that I got from Lucky...I have to be wearing the right top to pull them off since I am certainly not tall or thin!

I feel like I already wore that style in the '80's. It wasn't flattering then, and it hasn't gotten any prettier. It sort of gives you the ice cream cone look (skinny at the bottom, w i d e at the top) and that look just doesn't look good on anyone. I have muscular legs and these cling in all the wrong places. Definitely a thunbs down.

Yes. I wore them in high school. And I will never wear them again. NEVER NEVER NEVER!!!!!!!!!! }(

Although the skinny jeans fit well, I prefer stove pipe pants or cigarette type pants. Perhaps they are also called straight legged. There are so many jeans that are the same, but with many different names. Who knows what I'm talking about?

I know what you mean Janie :)

As far as the skinny jean: I will always say NEVER. I don't think they are flattering on anyone.

I know what you mean too, Janie, & I also like that style of jeans.

As for the skinny jeans, I agree with LauraMax & Brandi... I remember wearing jeans that I could hardly push my big foot through in high school because they were so tight at the bottom. So I sure won't be wearing them ever again either!

NEVER! :p

I've been dreading the return of skinny jeans. I prefer bells because they look so much better on me (tall, but not thin). Skinny jeans look good on what, 1% of the population? I hate 'em.x( What's next shoulder pads?

I've bought a couple of the straight legs jeans from American Eagle. Not quite as skinny as the "skinny jeans" but not flared either. I can't pull of that real skinny look, but, I think the straight leg ones look pretty good. BTW, I'm not tall and I have a bubble but (my hips and thighs are not wide). Straight legs are nice if you want to tuck them into boots for the winter time.

I thought stove pipe and cigarette were skinny jeans! I bought some paul and joe from Target and I love them. I was just excited that I could wear them! After doing Cathe for a year now! I can wear anything I want!

The verdict is that the trend is disappearing as we speak. I used them in the fall and over the holidays because I was tucking them into boots and they looked awesome but that's about it. You may see some skinny jeans pop up here and there, but with pants now we're going to see wider legs even palazzo-style legs again and thank goodness for that. I'm pear shaped and trying to look good in skinny jeans is really hard.

Oh, thank god. For those of you not in the know, Rose is THE fashion voice on this forum, so if she says it's going, it's going! :) I am sooooo happy to hear this.

I'm not sure I'm crazy about palazzo-style, either, but they were early 90s, right? So that means bootcut can't be too far behind. :7

Marie

They're not going out of my wardrobe! :D

I love them! I love the long, lean look they give. Honestly, I wear what looks good on me and don't worry about what the fashion world says is "in" or "out". If skinny looks good wear them... if flares look good, wear them!

Ever since I discovered it, I am absolutely committed to that little flare at the bottom of my pants. It just seems to balance out my whole figure somehow, and make my legs look longer. It's amazing what a difference it makes. Now that I know, you couldn't pay me to wear pants that hug my ankle.

The same is true for high-waisted pleated pants. My closet is full of suits that have them, but ever since I discovered lower, flat-front pants, I just can't bring myself to put on the old pleated ones. Some of the suits are made of beautiful fabrics and have great jackets so I'm struggling, but in the end I'm just going to get rid of them. Life is too short to wear stuff that doesn't flatter you. :p :p

Nancy

Nancy, I hear you on the pleated-pant-suit issue. Sometimes I think suit designers are years behind everyone else. Have you considered taking the pants to a tailor to see if they can be salvaged? I've often wondered about doing that, too.

OMG pleated pants are horrible! Who on earth had the idea that pants that made you look like you have a big old belly looked good? I mean, that pooch you get when you're sitting looks ridiculous.

Marie I actually really like the palazzo pants--the knit ones anyway. I wore them quite a bit in the summer w/a tank & sandals. I really hope they don't go out of style.

But I am delighted to hear the skinny jeans are already on their way out. :)

I don't know about that Marie. I do admit that I'm somewhat obsessed with beauty. I like to look good and I like to see everyone else around me look good. :)

I heard a fashion expert say the other day that a bootcut leg is considered a classic nowadays. I love bootcuts and pants with a slight flare. I recently discovered Levi's 542 jeans and I'm in love. They're slim fit with a slightly flared leg (more than a bootcut less than a flared leg kind of thing). I got a couple of pricier jeans in my closet that I don't wear nearly as often as I do my 542s.

My favorite look so far for the new year is this one http://anntaylorloft.com/atlOutfitD...erchant_Id=1&Section_Id=644&Product_Id=102460 but the pants are sold out at Ann Taylor Loft stores and online so I guess I'll have to wait. But just so you get an idea. Nautical jacket with a wider leg pant.

Jeanne I totally agree. People should wear what flatters their figure not what fashion experts say it's in or out. If you like skinny jeans and straight leg jeans you're in luck. Check out several stores online and you'll see skinny jeans and pants on sale. I saw a couple at anntaylorloft.com just a couple of minutes ago. Also, I recently saw tables and racks full of skinny and straight leg jeans on sale and on clearance prices at the mall.

Some people (it is a very small group) look better in skinnier pants than wider leg pants. My best friend has skinny legs and she would get lost in palazzos. That style of pant is not figure flattering on her so she looks much better in skinny jeans.
