Thanks LeanneM, for recommending this book. I took the quiz today and learned about my skin. Of course, I have the worst possible skin type and need all kinds of help. :p I like that Dr. Beaumann recommends lots of different brands at lots of different price levels. I lucked out in one small way: the eye cream I'm using is the eye cream she recommends for me. Other than that, I've got to get all new stuff of course.

Very helpful! Thanks again.

I also want to thank you for recommending this book. I got it out of the library, took the quiz and found I was pretty right on about my skin type. I had been using some of the products she suggested and had really liked the results. I will try some of her other recommendations once my current supply runs low. Great suggestion about this book.

I also just got it out of the library and am still reading the parts before the skin test. I am hoping that some of the stuff I have is still good! I am one of the ones she mentions that buys everything that has good advertising, and uses it once or twice, puts in away in the cabinet and forgets it is therex( A lot of wasted money..

Hi everyone,

I am so glad to hear that the book has been helpful for all of you! As I mentioned in a previous post, I had been using a skin regimen for a few years (using alpha-hydroxy products) that hadn't been doing me any good. In her book, she recommends retinol products for my skin type, and as soon as I made the switch, I saw such great results.

Besides, we all spend so much money on skin care products, that the cost of the book more than makes up for products that we have to throw away since they don't do us any good!

You might also want to check out Dr. Baumann's forum, where users post about which products work best for each skin type:

ETA: What skin types are you? I'm OSNW.

Have fun with the new products!

Thanks, Leanne! I just signed up for the forums. You are absolutely right. The book was only $12, and will probably save me a small fortune in future purchases! :D

I'm actually thinking of picking up the paperback version, too, since there are supposedly several new products in it that aren't included in the hardback version. I especially need to find a good everyday sunscreen, one that preferably has a moisturizer in it, too, so I can skip an extra step . . . .

Hi,

I just finished taking the test... I am a DRPW.. I am a little disappointed because she says I should get everything in prescription strength at a dermatologistx( . I was ready to run right out and buy all new stuff too! She does have recommendations for over the counter, but makes a point that they probably won;t work.. bummer!

Hi Deb,

Oh no! That's not good! Do you already have a dermatologist? Can you maybe buy some over the counter items, and get the really hard hitters at a dermatologist?

I did end up splurging on a prescription for retinol; my insurance wouldn't cover it since it was for wrinkles, but it has really made a difference so I'm glad I forked over the money! I've bought everything else over the counter, and have been pleased with the results. The one brand I've also started using is Paula's Choice, which I really like, but it may not be good for your skin type.

Sorry about the bummer news! :-(

Mine also said I would probably need some dermatologist products, but there are still several over-the-counter store suggestions. I think it depends upon how severe the problem is. Last year, my eyelids blew up so big I could hardly see, so the anti-inflammatory I used came from the dermatologist. But for every day maintenance and for my little brown spots, I'm willing to try the OTC stuff first before consulting the doc.
