Six Pack with No Ab Work???

Did anyone see that Workout show last night on Bravo? The owner of the place, who has awesome looking abs, said that she doesn't do any ab work. She said that, if done properly, the other exercises you do work your abs (bicep curls, tricep pushdowns, etc., etc.). Hmmm...I suppose if you ate clean 99.9% of the time, this might work? Unfortunately, I'm not in that category. :p Anyone else have awesome abs with no ab work?

My SO has a six pack and I don't think he's ever done a crunch or a sit-up in his life (well, maybe when he was in the Army). *shakes fist at her SO*x(

Oh how disappointing, I thought this post was about Budweiser. :p

I liked the show at first, but I just cannot stand her GF Mimi. That chick needs to be slapped into next Sunday.

i didn't see teh show, but I do think in a way that shes right. With almost every excerise you do, you always wanna contract your abs to protect your low back (or just ot work your abs too;-)) especially when you use free weights. But I also think you should add soem ab training because thats the only way they'll stay stronger. Just because her abs look good don't mean there really strong:). Trust me. I used to do a lot of sit-ups before and ya i gotta really nice six pack, but when I started gymnastics, trying to do leg lifts and levers and so on, I relized that my abs weren't really strong, they just looked good. Sorry this is soo long. I talk to much i guess:)

Adri, you are funny!
I guess gymnastics really uses your core for everything! Do you guys do "flexability training" (besides the obvious). I ask because my inner thighs are not very flexible when I stretch. I would like to work on that so I don't injure myself. Just curious!

Hi Megadoo,
ya, every pracice we begin with a warm-up consisting of running, arm circles, sashays, reboudning, ect. Then we go into about a 20-25 minute stretch then get togather with partneres and help stretch out each others legs, shoulders and back. We do ALOT of stretching. And to tell you the truth, I'm not wicked flexible since I started gymnastics when i was 11, and my bones and muscles were already more developed rather than someone hwo is 2 or 3 and started out. Ok here I go again talking too much. I gatta get a new hoppy:7 :7

I think you nailed it with the 99.9% clean eating comment. Having great abs is about being able to see them, which means little body fat in that area. That boils down to nutrition, more than crunches.
