Shrinking Violets Check-in

There are days to march forth in victory, and there are days to stand firm and celebrate not losing ground. This was one of the latter. I did not sleep well last night as a result of an annoying tickle in my throat. I was tired this morning, but I persevered.

After my quiet time, I decided to give Power Max another whirl. It is my goal to add more variety to my rotation this year instead of sticking with my favorite workouts all the time. I did Step Fit last week. It has always been my favorite workout on the Cardio Hits DVD. I did not have the mental focus or physical energy to tackle Step Works, so Power Max won by default. It is an intense workout. It is a good workout too. It simply does not rock my world. I am visually inspired. The CIA set with a fireplace in the corner of a small room is my least favorite of Cathe’s sets. I feel confined when I do this workout for some reason. I prefer bright and open sets and love dance studio sets with big windows. I love Cathe’s new set. I like the Step Fit set. It is more visually appealing than the other sets on this DVD. Cathe is cute in Power Max. The thong leotard she is wearing does not bother me at all. I can deal with thongs leotards and leg warmers too if the set is pretty and the music is good!

I have a short attention span, and Cathe lost my interest during the warm-up. This has to be my least favorite Cathe warm-up of all time. She includes a lot of fun moves in the step combinations like ponies with party arms, but the choreography overall is very basic. Cathe spends more time breaking down the choreography, and it is not as dancy or complex as my beloved Rhythmic Step. This is one of Cathe’s more popular step workouts, but I do not feel the love. The music is not my favorite either. I can imagine loving this workout with IMAX2 music! I also prefer Cathe’s fun personality and relaxed camera presence in her newer workouts (from the Slow and Heavy Series forward). Power Max is a great workout without a doubt, but Cathe has definitely improved as an instructor (and grown more beautiful!) through the years.

Power Max is not a total loss because I do love parts of it. The first combination after the warm-up is fun. Cathe cools down with a dancy Latin combination and includes the mambos and pivots I adore. It is a lot of fun to do too. The cool-down is actually my favorite part of the whole workout! After I experience Step Works again, I may create my own workout by combining my favorite parts of Power Max, Step Fit, and Step Works. Another warm-up with the first combination and the cool-down would be a fun timesaver workout. As much as I love Cathe, this workout as produced is not my cup of tea. I love Boot Camp and her new series with more athletic choreography, so it is not that I only like dancy choreography. I likewise love Low Impact Step with more basic choreography. It does not have Cathe’s best music either, but it makes me happy. I have not bonded with Power Max for reasons I cannot define. I am not one who can read a description of a workout and know that I will love it. I have to experience it. How a workout makes me feel is far more important to me than how effective it is. I want to dance and delight and experience joy. Working out should be about pleasure and fun, not just results. Exercise for me is more about worship than weight management. I am a Christian hedonist!

I received a package from Cathe today with my replacement DVDs. I need to preview them before I return the originals. I am extremely tired and ready to call it a day. I feel like I am coming down with something. Please pray for healing.

Heather, Hopefully tomorrow will be better for you. As for Power Max, at least you tried something new, even though it didn't end up for your liking. Cathe has such a variety, I doubt that there is anyone out there that just loves all of her workouts. As for thong leotards, I think I still have one or two of those in an old drawer with coordinating biker shorts. I can't believe I used to wear them in public at the gym. Yes, I know that was probably TMI for some of you. LOL.(the good news is that I was thin at the time) Funny how styles change. I still have a one piece unitard (tank style top with the long pant legs) that you would wear with a coordinating half top and bikini like bottom over it. What are some of the styles that you can think of that you are glad to have said good-bye to? I know I am glad that the men's basket ball shorts from the 80's are gone. The short ones with the white piping on the edge. Seeing them in old TV clips just makes me laugh. The good news was that even though they were short, the boxers weren't hanging out. Now the kids have to have their boxers hang out of everything. I guess they don't realize there is a reason it is called underwear.

Oh well, I need to get to bed or else I won't be able to get up at 4:30 to get my workout in and it's already after 11. I'm thinking GS Chest & tris tomorrow.

today's workout (thanks to shelly) was DM cardio UB blast. what a workout. I can tell you i burned alot of calories!!! got some good stuff to try out with my clients!!

i have yet to receive my replacement cd's but i am not worried, my current ones work excellent.

Good Morning Violets!

My step class last night was fun. It's really growing on me more and more each time I go. In the beginning I was sooo unenthused because I love Cathe and figured anyone else would bore me. Well, the choreo is totally different and I do PREFER Cathe's but the class is still tough and fun for me! I'm so happy it's not a chore to have to go to it although it CAN be a bit inconvenient for me...

After a hot shower and right before bed last night I did SM#3. I needed it. It felt good. Unfortunately though my calves are really sore and it didn't help that.

I have Yoga X on tap for today. That should help my calves some. I don't know if I'll get through the entire work out but I'll do as much as I can handle!

Jean: Generally speaking I will work out for about an hour per day/6 days per week. Sometimes I adjust the time due to all kinds of things including just feeling lazy (LOL) but for the most part 60 mins is my average.

Heather: I got my replacement DVD's y'day too. I never had a problem with the originals though so I'm not even worried about the new ones. Besides, I'm not to be able to preview an entire vid. I sit through about 15 mins of it and then fast forward the rest! LOL

Sunny: Sounds like a great work out y'day! I've never done that premix. There's a lot I haven't done on the new Cathe vids. I'll have a lot to do once I am done with the X rotation!:)

Meg: Okay, you DEFINATELY outdid yourself y'day with that friggin' work out you did BUT next time I want you to do the Leg Blast FIRST and then try to do the BM2 stuff after it!}( In reality, that would probably feel GOOD...it would "work out the kinks" for ya!:)

Kali: So what did you end up using as a sub for CTX S&I? I think SB is a good one but you could actually only do 1/2 of it as S&I is short. :)

Morning Girlies!

Heather, there's nothing wrong w/ feeling uninspired by a workout. There are plenty more to choose from. I have a few that don't "inspire" me myself. ;) And I believe you will love Step Works if you like Step Fit. And I have a feeling you CAN do it!

Meg, oh I hear you on the pms'ing bottomless pit thing. I don't always have to be pms'ing to feel like that tho! x( Great wo yesterday BTW! Let's try to stay on the clean eating train.

Wendy I didn't workout yet but I will do a premix from SB and abs since I didn't do LL yesterday and they have abs in them. I'm feeling some nice DOMS in my legs today. Nothing bad, just when I stretch and bend which is a good feeling.

I ate a piece of white pizza and some cheddar cheese last night but for the most part my eating was clean the rest of the day.

Jean I try for an hour too. Even tho it's usually over an hour x(. I'm happy w/ 45 min. but let's face it there arent' many Cathe workouts that are 45 min!

This morning I didn't get up at 4:30, but I did get up at 5 and did my mile on the TM and then GS Chest & tri. 6 days of woriking out in a row for me. Yeah. I haven't done that since before Thanksgiving. It feels good to be back in the grove.

Well I did SB and abs from SJP. Felt good having some DOMS. I love knowing when I'm really working.


Eating has been good, will continue thru the rest of the day.

Finished my WO. I did Jari Love's Slim and Lean UB tracks, B&G abs, then I did Self's Slim and Sleek fast, cardio and stretch. This was fun, not Cathe's intensity, but a nice 20 min add on. WO was just over an hour. I thought I was gonna die during Jari's bench press. Man, it never ends. Good good burn though.

Jean- that is so awesome. Keep it up!

Kali- way to cute. Is she doing well with the housetraining??

Wendy- so a good class huh? DOes the instructor face you? I think it would be annoying if you had to look at their back the whole time.

Meg, Yes, the instructor faces us just like on a Cathe vid. I've never taken a live class where it has been done any other way. Nice work out today, btw.

Well, I finished the second half of Yoga X just a few minutes ago. It's the part I never did before. I will do the first half tonight after DS goes to bed....or atleast that is the plan!:p

I am sorry I haven't had a chance to poke my head in this week! I have been super busy! I really haven't spent alot of time home this week. Tonight was the first time I didn't have to run anywhere so I just took it easy! Yeah, I could of gotten in a workout! I plan on starting a workout tomorrow since I have another free evening so far.

Well I am turning in early tonight and will talk to you girls tomorrow morning or afternoon!

Shrinking Violets Check-in

Good evening, Violets! I woke up with a mild sore throat and felt like my head was in a fog. I was able to breathe and wanted to stick to my rotation as closely as possible, but I did not want to get hot and sweaty and trigger a coughing fit. I remembered that I ordered Cathe’s intermediate workouts last month. After my quiet time, I did Body Fusion for the first time. I was pleasantly surprised by this workout. The music is good. Cathe uses music from the CTX Series, which I love. The choreography is simple but fun, and the intensity is moderate. It is a good recovery workout for days like this when I want to move but do not have enough energy to endure a more intense workout. I wrapped up my workout with the bonus stability ball abs. I stayed on track with my rotation by doing a circuit workout, and moving made me feel better.

I drank plenty of spring water today and a few cups of herb tea. I rescheduled my appointment with my counselor for later this month so I could rest tonight instead of meeting with her after work. Tomorrow is my day for a long stretch. I will be able to rest this weekend. I am hoping to fully recover next week because I want to start picking up the pace the following week and adding more intense workouts to my rotation.

Wendy, it is good that you enjoyed the step class. It seems odd to me that the club requires you to attend. What is the purpose?

Kali, your puppy is so cute.

Heather: Sorry you are feeling under the weather. I hope you feel better soon. Body Fusion is a great low intensity w/o. Glad it fit the bill for you. I have to attend one group class per week at my gym in order to maintain my free membership. As an employee we are entitled to a free membership but only if we fullfill the group class requirement. It's a new rule and it stupid. Everyone hates it...especially the employees who have been there for a while getting a "no strings attached" free membership. x( I like the classes...I just hate being told I HAVE to take them. My work out schedule is full enough! Fitting in the class can be tough!

I am feeling some DOMS in my bis YAY!!!. Can't believe it. My shoulders too. Should be feeling it in my chest though!

OK ladies, I really need to rein in on my eating. I am not eating horrible things, just to much of it I think. I hate that I have to always be mindful of what I eat cuz it goes straight to the belly. Oh well, that is life.

Thanks Heather. We think she's a cutie too. I hope you feel better soon. Sticking to rotations is no easy task.

Wendy, I'd hate hearing I have to take them too. "Bird" and "Puppy" are doing ok. We have to keep Bird in the cage tho because Jenny eats his crap if she finds any and it's given her a stomach problem we're trying to clear up. She's kennel training and doing well thank goodness.

Meg, I'm with you on the eating. I've been eating good all week, but last night at like 9:30 I had a salad and a fat free jello pudding. I know that's not bad, but still it was 9:30. When I was losing weight, I wasn't eating after 7pm unless it was a hard boiled eggwhite or some sliced turkey. So I know I need to incorporate some little things along with eating clean. Don't worry. We'll all do it together.

Well I had a 40 min. run and Coremax 1 on my rotation so I opted for C&W's since it fit the time schedule. Tomorrow is Imax but I'm thinking Lowmax as for me it is a bigger challenge than Imax. I'm trying to stay away from lots of jumping since my knee and hip have been feeling good. We'll see.

Hi everyone. Today will be a DOR except that I did my 1 mile on the TM. I used my Nike+ shoes on the TM and was surprise that the distance it said and the the distance the TM said almost matched. I thought it would be off, because I figured my stride would be different on the TM verses outside. As for speed I tend to jog a little quicker on the TM than I do outside. Of course outside I am also trying to get the dog to maintain so that could be why I'm slower. gotta run.

Just wanted to check in to say that Legs and Back is a great work out! Doing ab ripper x right after makes the ab work even TOUGHER! :eek: I think I might have some DOMS in the morning!:p
