Shoulders exercise in Meso 1 Week 4

You know that one set of shoulders where you turn to the right and lift the weights over your head, then turn to the left and do the same, then turn center & lift out front to shoulder height?? What's up with the turning? Does it serve a purpose? I just stay in one spot cuz I feel silly doing all the turning.
 
Just did that one in M1W2D4, I like that one with the turning, she calls it a functional exercise, I'm not sure I can explain exactly what that means, since I never really do that motion in real life :p. But yeah, I agree with fit mommy, it definitely engages the core in a different way.
 
I must be doing it wrong then, all the work is going on in my shoulders and feet. Oh well, I'm done with Meso 1 shoulders... maybe next time I'll hit the core with it. :)
