Short/Stout people????????

Ok, since the TALL PEOPLE have a thread, I thought I'd start this one...

I am 5'1" on a good day and weigh (right now, at higher BF level)136 pounds. When I am working out hard and highly muscle bound I still weigh in at around 134. Problem for me is lately I have wasted all my muscle and gained fat. But anyway, I digress.

So, for us shorties............what exercises are hard??? I still say Push ups are majorly hard for me because I carry a lot of muscle mass in my legs. These things are hard for me, much harder for me than my taller friends (we have had actual conversations about it):

HARD

1. Push ups..but not harder for me than for them, they are just HARD!!

2. Those sumo squats.......OMG! My heart rate goes thru the roof. My taller friends don't know why I am going to have a coronary afterwards!

3.SWIMMING..can't do it! Legs just drop like concrete no matter what I do!!

4. Hiking Camelback Mountain in Arizona, or even Squaw Peak...(it is more like repeling, LOL)

EASIER (could be debated due to me having more muscle mass)

1. Planks/pikes
2. Plie Squats
3. Power Scissors
5. Plyo jump/tuck jumps....pretty much anything highly anaerobic in nature

Ok, another debate: DO BIG BOOBS MAKE IT HARDER FOR YOU TO DO CRUNCHES/SIT UPS??? LOL. No, seriously though. Any short/stocky/stacked people out there?????? HA!

Can't think of anything else right now....what about you guys???:)

lol funny thread. I seriously have never thought about height making something easier or harder. However, if it is harder for me, now I can blame my vertically challenged self ;) Oh yeah, reaching the dang pull bar is a challenge unto itself.

Ok, chiming in on the do big boobs make crunches hard question. I don't really have an answer now, but I am having a breast reduction in January, so when I get back to doing crunches afterward I will let you know. LOL.

I have never really thought of height making a difference. I am average height, 5'4, and just think everything is hard because I suck!

I am also 5'3" and pushups are hard for me. Anything planky. I just don't seem to have a plank area!

Ivory - keep me posted on your breast reduction. I had one almost 4 years ago and I have NEVER looked back. My good friend just had one too! If you have questions or concerns please feel free to email me.

And, yes, situps are easier after the BR. There's somewhere to go!

This is quite possibly one of the funniest comments I've ever read on this forum---and I'm sure it's not true!

Melissa, Thanks. I appreciate the support. I am VERY scared right now. Surgery is January 26. Hey, I went to graduate school in PTLND. Lewis and Clark for a Counseling degree!

Some days I think that I would have to improve to even suck!

Anyway, Ivory
The BR can be very scary. It boils down to the relationship with your surgeon and your level of support at home. You have to trust your surgeon and yourself with him/her and when you get home, do NOTHING for about a week. It will help you heal.

My surgeon was great - when I came in for my post op wearing a tight black shirt she said "Damn, I'm good!"

I have lived in Portland for 5 years and just love it here. L&C is a great college and a fun area to live in. Keep me posted on your surgery. It is a big step and it is very normal to be scared.

Hey Janice......I am a munchkin too....5 foot nothing on a very good day. And life in general is hard for us shorties.....I can't reach anything in my kitchen, the grocery is a nightmare...nevermind at work at Starbucks.....I am on my darn tippie toes ALL DAY!!! I have got great calves, but I can not even reach the freaking cups, nevermind try to hand a beverage up the customer bar. I remember at the gym one day trying to do a ball exchange kinda thingie with a ball that was too big for me and newly inflated on top of that.....I could not for the life of me get the ball to stay put between the two little stubby things I call legs at all!! I just laughed, gave up, sat up and waited for everyone to finish.....the instructor gave me a kindly smile and said.....oopps sorry about that one.....or the day we had to cross the gym with the band down around our feet...to work the outside thigh...I had to use twice as many steps as everyone else....do not even get me started on walking lunges......see life in gerneral just sucks being a smaller person. Yeah, and the repeling part cracked me up.....try hiking with a six foot tall husband and his even taller friend......South Mountain might as well have been Everest........

I never gave any thought about my height being a factor for my difficulties in fitness. What gives me the greatest headaches are my knees, so I don't do those power scissors and air jacks. No high impact for a prolonged period. I can do plyo jumps and tuck jumps, but not that many of them. I don't find push-ups particularly difficult (except when I started working out), but I do dread pull-ups/chin-ups, even though I can do some of them unassisted. Those sumo squats do raise my heart rate up so much. I always thought it's because I'm working both arms and legs fast and hard.
