Shoes for weight lifting

Hi everyone -

I have read several posts on good aerobics shoes, and most people seem to agree that Ryka is the way to go. However, I don't do much of my aerobics at home, and I am mostly interested in what shoes are good for weight lifting at home on carpet. My running shoes don't seem to have enough support. I bought some nike cross-trainers that I don't like at all. Any suggestions?

i don't really wear special shoes myself but some members of the college gym(hubby works at the college in the city) said these are good. i personally don't know to much about it but these guys live in the gym outside of class

Hi Diane,
I just recently got a pair of rykas after all the talk I had to try them and I use them for weight lifting as well. I don't know what your looking for in a shoe for strength training...but I noticed more arch support in these shoes then any other shoes I've ever owned before and they don't slide when I do lunges or squats like my other sneakers.
Good luck with your search and I hope this helped at least a little :)

The old Rykas that can no longer cut it for stepping and kickboxing are what I use for weight lifting. I work out on puzzle mats even when weight lifting, so both the shoes and mats provide ample support. Before the puzzle mats, I also worked out on carpet. My old Rykas were good on it as well, even for the squats and lunges.

Running sneakers will throw your alignment off when doing squats, so its good to not wear them when lifting anyway. Crosstrainers are usually best. If you dont like the ones you have, try another brand. Good luck!
