One of my co-workers sister's just had her first born last night. Induced and in labor for only 5-6 hours. The last hour of labor was the only painful one and the baby was out in 3 pushes! A 7 pound baby boy! This woman "STOLE" by dream childbirth experience!!!:p lol (except for the induction, I'd rather it happen on it's own if given a choice)

Wow, 5-6 hours! I hope mine is that short and I agree with you, I want labor to start naturally. I heard that induced contracts hurt a lot more than natural ones.

YES!! Induced labor hurts like H*LL!! I had my first induced because he was getting too big. Was only in labor for 5 hours and had him within minutes. My second was ALL natural and was a paradise compared to my first. I didn't really feel much of contractions until about 5 min. before he was born. I had him in less than 3 hours of being in labor. It was kind of a lot of trouble being that fast because of the stupid doctors. Otherwise, everything went well. I wish you pregnant ladies a lot of luck and a lot of joy with your little ones. They're SOOOOO worth it. Pain and all! :)

Wow, Imani, you are so close!!!!! I can tell you what helped me to go into labor on my own. I don't know if you have a midwife or Dr. and I don't know their individual style, but I had a fabulous midwife! She listened to my body and didn't push induction like most doctors do if you are a day late. She helped us so much! She recommended Evening primrose oil to soften my cervix, and it worked! In one week, my cervix went from hard and no centimeters to soft, mallable and three centimeters. I inserted 3-4 capsules into my vagina each night for the last week of pregnancy and took 2 orally 2 times a day.
Another recommendation? Sex. A lot of it. Constantly. I know that you are big and uncomfortable, and you don't feel like it at all! But it works. I told my husband to go to town with my nipples (when will my boobs ever be this big again?) and we were going to have sex alot, and he is going to enjoy it because it will be weeks before we have sex again. I have never seen him happier! I actually kinda enjoyed it, too! You body releases oxytocin to get contraction going (which softens your cervix) when your nipples are stimulated, and semen has prostaglandin (sp?) which softens your cervix.
I went into labot on my own, 13 days overdue, but he was ready to come out then, and he was healthy! And I did not have to endure the dreaded p-drip!
good luck!

Oh my goodness, I called my DH this morning to let him know how the doc appointment went and he doesn't want to have s*x anymore now! LOL He's kinda grossed out and afraid to do it now until afterwards!!! Who knows he could get over it FAST if the mood strikes him or me hard enough but I laughed like heck when he said that coz it's sooo unlike him!

Does he know how the baby comes into this world? A doctor's hand is nothing! LOL!
Don't worry, his sworn abstinence won't last long! Men don't know how to control that particular organ! :p

Yeah, I'm thinking the same thing. I'm not taking him too seriously! lol I guess the "reality" of child bearing is really "hitting home" for him for obvious reasons now and he's just overwhelmed by it all right now...:)

I guess you could say my labor was pretty easy. It lasted about 5 hours and only took about 20 minutes of pushing for DS to come out, but most of that was spent learning when I needed to push and how to push. The only painful part for me was the last couple of pushes when my pelvis bone popped. At that point I knew he had to come out. I did have an epidural so that is why the pain was minimal with the exception of the pelvic bone popping out of place. I felt so good, mentally and physically, after giving birth that if the hospital could have released me then I would have went home in a heartbeat that afternoon.

I hope you get your dream childbirth experience.

DH was creeped out too about having sex at the end of my pregnancy. He didn't want the baby to feel any thumping. LOL

Oh Wendy, you are soooooooooooo close.

As for sex, it's very sparse with us during pregnancy. Hubby I guess is a little grossed out about the whole thing. He doesn't find my growing body sexy at all. :( The good news is I've been able to slender down quickly after baby's are born thus far. ;)

Not to be crude, (sorry) but he better get it in while he can...it'll be a long wait till you are ready after.

It's funny you say that. My husband said something to the affect when I was 8 months pregnant "now he knows how he would feel if I was fat." I said, "Oh, yeah? Are you brewing a set of twins in there?" He promptly apologized, laughed (played it off) and never said another word! Sometimes you just gotta put it into perspective for them!;)

My DH never had a problem with my "new shape"...he's just wierded out now cause the baby is head down and I guess it's almost like the baby would be watching us if we were to do it! LOL

My hubby seems to have no qualms with sex during pregnancy. Having said that, it's been very sparse for us since I conceived, due to my extreme fatigue in the first trimester, and then my 9 weeks of bedrest (a bit ironic that I spent 2 months in bed and didn't get to see any action!). Hopefully things will pick up again now that the pregnancy is back to normal.

That co-worker did indeed have a dream birth, Wendy! We seem to hear about the difficult births more than the dream births, so thanks for posting and helping us stay optimistic.

Cheers,
Sandra

As to the birth experience, I really believe that being in shape helps a LOT, and that's good motivation to keep working out, even when I don't feel like it. I had to be induced with both my babies, but had actually gone into labor already with #1 by the time we got to our induction appt (they induced, anyway, though). That first one took awhile to get the contractions going, but the actual pushing part was maybe 10-15 minutes - 3 pushes is all it took. Gotta believe in ab work after that!! :) #2 was even faster (scary fast!) I wouldn't call it a dream, but when it was over, I felt so good that I called everyone and invited them to a party in my room as soon as I was out of recovery. :) So keep up the workouts - it really pays off in the end.

As to the sex thing, DH was complaining to me yesterday that I'm always sick and tired and he's really in the mood. He loves how big my bb's get and doesn't mind the belly at all. I told him to wait for the 2nd tri. Once the hormones get going, I don't think he'll be complaining anymore ;-)
