I was just wondering what movies you guys thought were worth the time and money this week. The kids and husband have the entire next week off and there are so many movies out to choose from that look good. We are taking the kids to see Night at the Museum because everyone we know loves it. What are your picks for adults? What should we avoid? Thanks! :)

The Pursuit of Happyness. Based on a true story, inspiring, wonderful, great performance by Will Smith as a homeless guy who climbs out of an endless series of problems and becomes a stock broker, all the while taking good care of his 4-year-old son, incredibly well played by Will Smith's son, Christopher. The interplay between Smith and his son is amazing, the little kid is a great actor, it will tug at your heartstrings. It's an American Dream sort of story, perfect for the New Year. Critics have said it's predictable and some say it's a little sappy, but my skeptical husband and I both loved it. It's a tear-jerker, but in a good way ;-)

Also (but kids would probably not like this too much), The Queen, another amazing performance from Helen Mirrin as Queen Elizabeth and the reaction of the royal family, Tony Blair, etc., to the death of Princess Diana. Fascinating look at the private life of the monarchy and the influence it has on Britain.

Happy movie-week!

I'll second The Pursuit of Happyness. Dh and I saw it the first night it opened. I echo everything Diane said above.

I'd like to see the football movie, We Are Marshall and Rocky 6. I don't know what kind of reviews these movies are receiving.

Enjoy whatever you see.:)

We saw "the Good Shepherd" and were not impressed. It was very dark and jumped around alot causing confusion.

"We are Marshall" was good. Typical triumph over adversity type movie.

I loved "Night at the Museum". Your kids should enjoy this one.

The only one I have seen recently is Charlotte's Webb and it was wonderul. I saw it with my mom, sister, niece and nephew and everyone (3-52) love it. :)

If you want a light romantic comedy, "The Holiday" is pretty good.

I went under protest but really got sucked into this one and was totally absorbed through the whole movie.

If you are looking for a decent kid's movie, Flushed Away is pretty cute.

We also saw "The Good Shepherd" and thought it was dark, so dark that it gave me a headache. I also enjoyed "Eragon", but it is one of my favorite books. I wanted to see how the director took the printed word into a movie.

Pursuit of Happyness is great. Unbelievable what Chris Gardner went through.

Don't laugh, but I really enjoyed "Rocky Balboa." It has the same feeling as the first Rocky; very inspirational. Also some good quotes that you can live by. I'm a sucker for feel-good movies and both of these are it.

NIGHT AT THE MUSEUM!!!!!!!!!!!!! I took my mom, my 2 boys, and my fiance's 2 children to see this this past week and all 6 of us just LOVED LOVED LOVED this movie. It's was a great clean, humorous, kid-friendly family movie. BEST one I'd seen in a LONG time! I cannot wait to own this one!

We went to see We Are Marshall tonight and it was excellent! A true, very sad story but great acting. We went last week to see The Good Shepherd and agree...very different and neither DH nor I liked the movie..not impressed at all. We are planning to see Pusuit of Happyness tomorrow nite and Rocky next week. Can't wait to see them both! We also saw The Apocalypto and it was a good story but very violent and lots of blood.

I second the vote for We Are Marshall. Bring your kleenex! Very touching story, and Matthew M. is easy on the eyes even in 70's polyester!
