Secret (Mystery) Shopper

Has anyone on here ever been a Secret or Mystery shopper? I did it years ago, but it's been a while since I did it. It appears you can make much more money doing it today that you used to be able to.

I'm curious as to whether anyone else has done it and how much you made a month doing it.

How do you become one?

I always get those emails or see ads, but you have to pay $$$. I assume those are scams of course.

I have always wanted to do this though.

From my experience it depends on your area. For ex, if you're in an area where there's not many shoppers available, you can get lots of jobs. You should apply to a lot of different companies, just be weary of those that require money. Also if you can get in good with a few companies doing runs just for certain few places like KFC, Ralphs, etc you can make okay money (not much when lots of shops only pay 10 dollars plus additional for merchandise reimbursement-depends on the type of shop).
Volition.com use to be a forum I regularly posted available shops.
Prophet is a site where different mystery shopping companies use to post shops on, so you can try there if you're thinking about starting to shop again.

Yeah, the secret shopper main site says the ones asking for money ARE scams...

My daughter works at Toys R us and they have mystery shoppers. I asked her to find out how I can become one but I am still waiting. She seems to always forget to ask.
