"Screw top" Walmart barbells

Question for those with the Walmart barbells that have the threaded plate holders. Will a spring clip hold the plates on or should I just invest in a new barbell?

It takes forever to change the weights and I've seen the link to the super cheap Walmart set that comes with the clips.

Trying to decide which way to go before the new workouts arrive. Plus I'll need to invest in heavier dumbbells. Oh, my aching wallet!

I don't have the Walmart one, but I have a threaded barbell and use spring clips on it.

I'm at that point where I need to add weight and I'd just as soon get more plates for the bar I've got and search around for a set of clips.

I wonder if I can just pick up a set of the clips at Walmart? I'll check.

No problem. When I got my clips, I just made sure that I tested them on a bar at the store so I knew that they would fit.

Bars are one of two standard sizes: 1" diameter and 2" diameter (the latter is called "Olympic"), as are clips. Most of the bars we have for home use are 1" (and I think Walmart only sells that size), so the clips should fit. I've gotten clips from Walmart before.

Kathryn, thanks for the A-Ha! moment. That was my worry - that the clip wouldn't fit. But now that I know there are only two diameters to worry about it'll be much easier to find the 1" clips I'll need.
