Sarah (Imafitnessfreak) question

Sarah,

I got my Fat Tracker Gold. Thanks for the suggestion!! It seems really easy to use. I did my measurements twice and it says I have 33% body fat. Wow!! I'm 141 pounds, 5ft, 32 years old and tend to carry more muscle easily in my legs. Does this sound right? I tend to wear a size 8 - 10. But right now the 8's are tight. I was wondering if you wouldn't mind helping me with a few questions on this BFFM plan. I love reading your posts because you give such great information and support.

1. How do you measure your tricep yourself? I do it but there's no way I can pinch anything so I'm not sure if it's very accurate.

2. On the mid-section measurement - where exactly do you measure? The diagram looks like belly-button level and under the boob.

3. Based on my calculations my TDEE for maintenance is 2715 calories and to lose wt it is 2172 cals. This sounds really high to me.

Thanks,
Kimbra

Hi Kimbra!

The reading is not going to be 100% accurate but it will be close. The caliper should be used as a gauge, nothing more, to track your progress. It WILL give you a good idea what your bf% is and it will be close to reality, just don't go to Vegas and bet your life saving that your bf% is exactly 33%.

1.LOL!!!This is funny, I get a good pinch on the tricep, then have my 4 year old hold the skin for me, then I measure it with the caliper LOL!!! No, not 100% accurate but with consistancy, it's a gauge...that's all I want.

2. On the right side of your body, use your right hand, put your fore finger on the front of your hip bone and move up about 1 inch, now using about another inch depth, pinch and hold diagonally. I have seen diagrams of this, I will dig them up and post for you.

3. here is what I get for your stats:
BMR 1394
TDEE 2161
20% Deficit 1729
30% deficit 1513

This is assuming you are moderately active. Maybe you did the male calculation by mistake???

Thanks Sarah!

I used the Katch-McArdle Formula that uses the LBM as a factor.

LBM = 94.47

141 (current wt) x 33% (Body Fat) = 46.53 (lbs of fat)
141 - 46.53 = 94.47 LBM

Caloric needs

370 + (21.6 x 64kg (my wt in kg)) = 1752 BMR
1.55 (activity factor) x 1752 BMR = 2715 TDEE

I'm still getting something different...

LBM=94.47 lbs.
LBM in kg=LBM/2.2 so 94.47/2.2 =42.94 (LBM in kg)
BMR= 370 + (21.6 x 42.94)=1297.524
TDEE=1297.524 x 1.55 (activity factor)= 2011.162

20%=1608.929
30%=1407.813

I am not sure how you came up with 64kg for your weight...I got 42.94kg...

I see what I did wrong. I was using my actual weight of 141 divided by 2.2 to get kg instead of my LBM.

Thanks!!!
