I was just wondering if you are still caffeine free. Lately I've been contemplating giving up soft drink. I think my addiction is getting out of hand and it can not be good for the baby. Any words of wisdom?

kristi...i am butting in here as i am obviously not sandra. however i used to have a soda addiction a long time ago what helped me was drinking these flavored, carbonated waters. they taste just like soda, except have no sugar, no caffeine and no calories. they are yummy and you won't be able to tell the difference. they sell them in your local supermarket, walmart and walgreens.
Good luck!

Hi Kristi!

Yes, I'm still caffiene free, and feeling much better for it. My appetite seems to be in better control, and my afternoon energy-slump doesn't seem quite so bad.

Gosh, words of wisdom...Hm....I think Sunnydelite's suggestion to find a substitution is a good one. Also, be prepared to feel lethargic, headachy and sleepy for a few days. Within a few days you will start to feel like your regular self again, so just be prepared to be "sick" for a few days. If possible, pick a time to do this when you can treat yourself as though you have the flu. I spent a couple of days in and out of naps. My headache lasted a week. If you're comfortable taking Tylenol while pregnant, you might want to have some on hand. And keep yourself very well hydrated (lots of water). Don't be surprised if you develop very strong cravings for sugary foods.

I suppose a lot is going to depend on how fast you cut out, and how much. Let us know what approach you're going to take, and how it goes!

Go Kristi, Go!

Well I think I am going to try stopping cold turkey on Saturday, too much temptation lying around right now. Of course I will be picking up those carbonated waters to substitute. I have used them in the past and I particularly like the ones from Walmart. I also will stick with decaf tea and try to drink lots of water. I've been really bad about neglecting my water intake and with summer coming I can't let myself get dehydrated. That is primarily why I feel I need to stop my soft drink addiction. When I drink soft drink it makes me not want any water. Boy I will be one cranky mommy for a little while, but I know it is for the best. I'm also trying to incorporate more fresh fruits and veggies into my meals.

So you plan to do this on Saturday, huh? So if we don't hear from you for a bit, we can presume your brain is still recovering from the withdrawl? I wish you the best of luck; it's hard to quit any kind of addiction!

Thanks everyone for your encouragement! You all are so sweet! I will definitely need it. I've quit drinking them before, but then went back to them again. This is a vicious cycle. Hopefully, I will end my dependency for good this time. Thanks again!
