S&H Series

I have every one of Cathe's tapes (and have pre-ordered the Intensity series) except for the Slow and Heavy series. I'm just a little reluctant to order this set only because of the concentration needed (which I don't know if I have) and I'm thinking that I may do better with endurance type workouts.

I'd love to hear from those of you who love the results you've gotten from S&H -- maybe you were reluctant to order at first too? I don't doubt for a minute this is an excellent set of tapes, but maybe I have all I need with PS and all of the rest? Maybe I'm just looking for a little convincing? ;)

Hi Kristine,

I think many people get confused by the words "concentration" and "mental focus" like it's going to take so much more effort than any other weight training. Truthfully, to get optimal results and not waste your time, we should be focusing regardless of the workout in order to get the best results. But with S&H, by focusing in on the muscle group, and really "looking for" the feeling in the muscle, you really learn what muscle group is working and what you should be feeling while lifting/lowering the weight. This comes in really handy for every other series. I really learned to focus in on the muscles used during lunges and squats through using S&H Legs. From then on, whether I'm doing MIS, PH, PS or LL, I now know what I should be feeling. Same for chest work. It really is an educational series (IMO) for those of us who cannot afford a gym membership or even an hour with a PT. Cathe does an exceptional job explaining the exercises and the muscles worked.
And even though you prefer endurance workouts more, at some time you'll need to "shake up" your routine with a different style of workout, so S&H could serve that purpose for you in short intervals.
Have I spent your $ yet? :)

I just finished a S&H rotation. I can tell you that I am stronger than before, and more conscious of form. I know I'm stronger because I was doing demos last night for dh and I was using heavier dumbells than I normally do. He's getting into lifting, too, but doesn't know the exercises or his one rep max.

Anyway, I'd say, get the series! Cathe doesn't recommend that you do more than 3-4 weeks of a S&H rotation anyway, so it's really good for a change in routine once in a while.

If you love Cathe you'll probably love S&H. I prefer S&H over endurance workouts, but can only do the same videos for about a month. I also get the best results with S&H type lifting. CTX does it for me also. Don't know why.

Have you checked out the preview of S&H at this site? If I remember right Cathe's previews are pretty long and you should be able to get an idea if you'll like it or not.

Thanks Donna, kotacam and Andrea. :) You've just helped me to spend my money wisely. It sounds as if I'd really benefit from this series -- I LOVE the PS series, and I would like to be able to increase my weight load, so S&H will be the next set of tapes I'll purchase.

I've tried to look at the previews of the tapes on this website, but for some reason my computer isn't allowing me to (?).

Anyhow, thanks again for helping me to decide!
