running/jogging shoes

the weather has been so nice and i'd like to get outdoors for my cardio- has anyone had a good experience with running shoes?

i'm a bit intimidated by all the options and hope i can get some ideas here to narrow it all down. i have long feet/toes (i'm not being funny!) and a nice arch. i'm not even sure if that matters or not but i'd like to hear from people with long, narrow feet with nice arches- if they have running shoe favorites.

You will get a TON of different opinions and often you just have to try them for yourself. That being said, the ONLY shoes that have not caused injury to my feet or ankles are New Balance shoes. They are perfect for me. I also use those cheap "ProFoot" inserts in them that you can get at any drugstore. I had the very expensive orthotics, which proved worthless to me. They caused more pain than before I had them!?!

Anyway, good luck...running is fabulous!!

It would probably be very helpful to go to a specialty running store where someone can look at your feet and suggest some appropriate shoes, and then watch you walk/run in several pairs to determine which gives you the best suppport.

Take care,

Ady

Yep, I agree on going to a specialty running store. They will be able to tell you what kind of shoe you need- stability, motion control, cushion, etc. And... go up at least half a size from your normal shoes. When I run long distances, I have to get running shoes 2 sizes bigger!! (I've had black toenails which are NOT pretty & are very painful!)

For me, I'm an Asics gel GT- 2110 fan, but everyone is different! HTH!

i like specific brands, but even in those brands, certain styles dont work for me. for example, i like mizuno and brooks. they both make many styles that dont work for my type of foot. i have long narrow feet, but am flat footed. just like the others said, go to a running store. i use custom made orthotics. have for years, and they have saved my knees and feet. what works for one person doesnt work for another.

you will know what feels good when you try on a few different pairs.

I am a Nike girl myself and have been running in them for years.. The Nike shox currently. Nike tends to run narrow. I would also recommend a running speciality store and bring an old pair of sneakers. They will examine them and see if you pronate. If you go on runnerworld.com, they have a link (or they used to) to find a running store in your state. Good Luck.
