Runners check-In 4/26

Carole posted the link the Hal's website, and I am following the Novice training schedule. I'm doing a P90X rotation at the same time, so we'll see. I hope I can keep up. I'm thinking I can sub some of the cardio for running, and as it's mainly strength I SHOULD be okay.

Sarah - it's 10 more days, now, isn't it? How'd the Cook out go?

Kathy - Oh I'll be cheering you on this weekend! Let us know how it goes!!

You ladies are really inspiring me. I've done century bike rides, climbed mountains, etc, but the one thing I always thought beyond me is a marathon. Now, I'm thinking it may be possible. Let me run a 1/2 and see how that goes, then I'll consider...

Laura-sounds like a nice workout planned!

Gayle-you have done a MARATHON you are officially no longer allowed to call yourself a beginner! I'd need to train for a half in the fall, maybe the following year (or the year after...)and then you can mentor me too!

Judy-I'm actually a beginner:p and I try to increase my mileage when I can never by more than 10% at one time, but every few weeks I like to make my "long run" a little longer and one of my shorter runs longer (or sometimes just harder, like a tempo run, a few intervals in there, or more hills).
Sorry about the disturbing incident this morning Judy, it certainly makes you feel lucky and alive

Elaine-Ran? You think that's bad? I had to scrape ICE off my car this morning x(

Marsha-we'll be keeping our fingers crossed for you this weekend, try to get some extra sleep if you can swing it. I'm very interested to hear what the half if like for you as that is the next big race I'll be doing.

Ellen-I know what you mean about running that early, I love it, but am leery of doing it alone

Christine-3 is great! Besides we all know how HARD you ran those three;-)

Thomasina-I had such a crazy morning that I haven't been able to post yet, but I did LOTS o' old school step this morning because it was freezing outside (ICE ON MY CAR-it is almost MAY) I did Powermax and then combos 1,2,3 from Step Jam which was just a blast!

Kathy-Best of luck! Remember, we want details and pics!

Sarah-10 days, 10 days, 10 days!!! Hope your BBQ was fantastic last night.

Just for the record you guys are making me really want to do a marathon with you with all the beautiful pictures and talk of running together. Can't imagine the look on DH's face when I tell him I'd like to do one in CA!

And did everyone read about Lori! OMG!

Gayle - if you do come out to SFO, let me know! I'd love to meet you! I think you'll be a great mentor - but you have to choose the one that fits your schedule. October, eh? Hmmm, maybe I can do the San Jose 1/2 on the 8th... Ah, wait... you ladies are going to kill me...

LOL. How do you keep this from becoming ADDICTING?????? It's just not possible. I took my mom to the running shoe store this morning and I walked out with my new sneaks, my new shirt, AND A TON of applications for area races/runs! I could book myself up solid for the next 3 months if I wanted! LOL DFiance is going to think I've run away with another man!

Gayle

There's my problem. DH loves to run and would love to run these with me, but he's knee is pretty messed up right now. He even told me to cancel the Wharf to Wharf this year as he could not run it (that's a 10k - Santa Cruz to Capitola). So here I get a wild hair and decide to run a 1/2 marathon? Hmm... that will be interesting. That's why I figured the Sonoma one would be great - his other passion is wine. If he can't run, he can have wine... :p

Oh my goodness Gayle! I know you’ll go with your heart on this one, and I think being a mentor for LLS would be a good choice. I did it for one of my marathons and it was really cool fulfilling experience for me. You could always do the Marine Corps next year?? Or you could run the MCM this year and be a non-running mentor for the SF team. Although, I felt being a running mentor was a better fit. Good luck with your decision and I know you will do what is best suited for you and your boys!
(Geesh! I think I’m going to buy you a Cardio Coach too!!)

Christine – You are soooo funny! But I sound just as crazy as you all since I have been able to run again!

Thomasina

Kathy, OMG!! I missed something along the way and had no idea you are running a marathon this weekend!! Good luck. I'll be thinking about you along with the other runners on this thread! Can't wait to hear your report!

Thomasina and Christine, I will bring up the Sonoma 1/2 for sure with DH this evening and get signed up. We'll probably make a long weekend camping trip out of it.

Gayle, You do have a tough choice. If it were me I would choose SF because of the side benefit of helping the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society and I have a feeling you'd be a wonderful mentor! Plus you could do the Marine Corps next year cause you know you're gonna run one then too! BUT, I realize you have many variables to consider so that's just my initial reaction and in no way is meant to influence you....

Where's Sarah? Wendy?

Well, here's my train of thought...

Both marathons can be fundraisers for the LL&S, so that's not the thing. I'm actually leaning toward Marine Corps for many reasons. First, I've been promising my kids a trip to DC since last summer. Second, it's close enough to drive to for me, so that reduces the cost (whether or not I do the fundraising). Third, I think DFiance and I can take all 4 kids there for a 'family' trip for much cheaper than SF. I'll bounce it off him tonight, just for feedback.

THANKS for the input....signing off for the night. Book Club meeting coming right up!

Gayle

Hello Ladies! I only have a few minutes today to post. Today I was scheduled for an interval run during lunch, but due to today being Administrative Professionals Day my office took myself and Office Manager out to lunch. Of course I ate way too much, but it was a nice treat. However, when I get home today I hope to strap the kiddos into the baby jogger and try to do that interval run. We shall see what happens from there.

I'll talk to you all tomorrow. Have a great day!

Got back from my three mile (or so) run. I ran further in the same amount of time, but I have a question for those of you who run around noonish... What do you have for breakfast. I did Chest and Arms today from P90X so I was hungry and had some eggs and pseudo sausage. Not a good idea before a run - I felt like I had a rock in my tummy.

Christine - Great job with the run! SEEE? you're gonna do great training for a half! Actually, when I used to run during my lunch hour, I would have my breakfast before work but then I had a snack like some fruit or yogurt (when I used to eat yogurt) about an hour before a run. I also drink tons of water throughout the day. I'm sure you're going to get some better suggestions, though.. :7

Gayle - Well, if you promised your boys and it would be a great family outing for you all, then Marine Corps sounds the best choice! Carole - we definitely need a Marine Corps marathon pic in here when you have a chance, of course. :p

Elaine - Camping trip outing sounds great! I know this will sound snobby, but DH and I are going to stay 2 nights at the Sonoma Mission Inn & Spa during the half marathon weekend. It will be one of our get away weekends.

Kristi - there you are! Yep, I used to hate when those lunch deals would get in the way of my lunch hour workouts because then I would have to run after work with a still too full feeling. Good luck with your interval run!

Thomasina

Gayle - I have to agree with Thomasina - as much as I would LOVE to see you and the boys out here, I think the Marine Core one sounds more logical. Then you can come out to San Francisco NEXT year and we'll all run with you! How's that sound? Let me know when you have your website set up so I can donate.

Thomasina - love your name by the way, sounds so romantic! Good idea - I think I'm going to skip the protein and go for grains. I'll have some healthy cereal and yogurt on my run days. And eat earlier!

And by the way - the HRM is dead! I killed it. I bought a Polar so I have one, and I'm going to send my Timex back to the factory (I've only had it since August) to get fixed - that way I'll have a back up. I like the new Polar, but the Timex has some features I'll miss. That would explain why it was telling me I was clinically dead. *grins*

I cannot tell y'all how much I appreciate the support here. I know y'all are a bunch of enablers, but that's okay. I haven't been this excited about running since I climbed Whitney and decided trail running would be my next big adventure. Wanted to do the Pike's Peak Marathon... Hey, some day... (Need to complete a flatlander marathon before this one!) But a snowboarding accident stopped my running and I never built my endurance back up. I could do a 10k right now, but I would hurt afterwards, but I want to be able to run that Half (haven't OFFICIALLY signed up, but my credit card is starting to smoke with the friction of trying to hold it back!) without being in too much pain afterwards. SO {{{HUGS}}}} Thanks.

Sappy hour over... *crawls back into cave*

OK you enablers. You know who you are. Looks like I'll be making a trip to Sonoma in July because I'M REGISTERED FOR THE WINE COUNTRY 1/2 MARATHON!!!!!! Whoo hoo!!:) :)
