Rotations vs Whatever

I placed this question on the ask cathe forum but I would like some other opinions and thoughts.

What is the benefit of a rotation vs "i think I'll do this work out today"? I would have thought variety is the spice of life and the muscles get more benefits from a variety? I am very confused. Many thanks in advance

it depends on what goals you want to reach. if you are trying to reach a specific goals then i would say you would need a planned rotation to get there but if you are just looking to exercise and get everything in that just picking what you want that day is okay too. but you can get variety in a rotation too. that is why so many of us have to many workout videos LOL
