Ropes Gone Wild and Fillable Kettlebells

Hello,

I am doing a kettlebell rotation this month. I have read the info at the Art of Strength WEB page on Ropes Gone Wild. I have been tempted to buy a Rope for Ropes Gone Wild. If you have done or are doing Ropes Gone Wild, do you think that it is a worthwhile investment? What benefits have you derieved from it and how often do you do it? Do you use it for your active rest periods?

Also does anyone have the fillable kettlebells? What has been your expereince with them?

Hi Regina- I am not help in this area, but had to share the vision that immediately came to mind when I read Ropes Gone Wild. You know on the Charlie Brown Thanksgiving when Snoopy gets all tangled up in the jump-rope as he's getting stuff from the garage..... yeah, that's what I pictured!:D

I don't have any ropes or a fillable kettlebell, so I can't speak from direct experience, but I do think the adjustable bell might be nice.

I just moved up in weight with regular kettlebells - I am finally able to use the 12kg bell for entire workouts. But it was TOUGH getting to that point, and I still wish I had one that was between the 8kg and the 12 (why is there no 10kg??). I think it might be nice to have just one bell that you could adjust according to how heavy you feel like going, instead of having to buy entirely new kettlebells as you get stronger.

I bought a 30' rope from AOS. There is another company called knotandrope.com that sells the manila rope and they can cap the end for you. I used it as a HIIT circuit alternating between 30 sec work and 30 sec rest. I rotated b/t the ropes gone wild, kettlebell swings, and jump rope. They are really a fantastic addition to any program, and get the HR up way more than I thought they would. I bought the 1.5 in 30' rope for outdoor use. I anchored around a bench in the garage and it works like a charm. Hope this helps.

ETA: If you order from AOS, they will include the Santa Monica download where you use the ropes during the active rest period. I have not had the chance to do that one yet, but it looks intense.

I have all of the AOS DVDs, and I have Ropes Gone Wild (and the ropes). I really love them -- very high cardio with no impact. I use the ropes often (especially in Santa Monica), and as a warm-up for other workouts (while waiting for DH to show up to work out with me). Santa Monica is a great workout (and there's no snatch challenge at the end)!

I can also get my kids to use the ropes -- simple to use but a great workout for them... especially my video-game-loving DS!

I don't know about the fillable kettlebells. I bought a pretty large set of regular kettlebells, and hesitated to add to the collection with the fillables, so I can't help you with that.

Hope that helps.

Thank you for the info. A few weeks ago I downloaded FirePower and Santa Monica. I saw the Ropes Gone Wild part in Santa Monica and became interested in them. Does any one use a kettlebell to anchor the ropes? I saw the informational video on Ropes Gone Wild with Anthony (on the AOS WEB page) and that is one of the ways that he suggested to anchor them. He also discussed the different lenght ropes and widths of the ropes. What do any of you suggest for length and width?

Also is the Resolution workout a follow along workout like Newport, Providence, Santa Monica and Firepower? I am trying to follow his most recent rotation and he includes Resolution in the rotation.

Thank you for any info that you can provide.

Kathryn! Your gym is better than a gym you have to pay a membership for. You have EVERYTHING!! You are so lucky!! I really want the ropes but they are expensive. I wonder if you can buy them at the Home Depot for cheaper?

Regina- Resolution is a follow along workout in a downloadable format not a DVD. They have deals quite freqently for 20% off if you sign up for their emails( if you haven't done so already). The other weird one on that rotation was the Strength in Motion which is a workbook that you can download or get the hard copy.

As far as the ropes, Anthony said a 50# bell should work for a woman using a 1.5 inch rope. As far as what to get, there are several things to consider. Where will you be using it (indoor vs outdoor, garage vs exercise room)? How much room do you have? It won't do much good to order something where you can't use the full length. I bought the 30" 1.5 inch and it works like a charm in the garage. Perform Better sells a rope anchor for 25.00 that can be screwed in to the wall, but you can probably get something at your local hardware store that might suffice.

On a side note, you can use the ropes for tabata drills, on their own, with other pieces of equipment, and as active rest b/t rounds of the AOS DVD's. They are making a new DVD that is totally devoted to the ropes gone wild. I don't know when it will be ready.

Hope this helps.

Thank you all for the information! I am going to look into downloading Resolution and signing up for for AOS email.

Theresa, I would like to have the flexibility to use the ropes in my basement or in the yard. Do you think the 30 foot 1.5 inch rope would do the trick? I could use the forty foot rope easily in my yard but the 30 foot rope would work better in the basement. Anthony said that you could wrap the extra length loosely around your ankles. Do you think that is feasible?

I was thinking about the kettlebell to anchor the ropes because I think that the wall or floor anchor will tear up the dry wall. I have carpeting in my basement where I work out.

Thanks for the info on the forthcoming Ropes Gone Wild DVD.

The kb should work just fine. If you want to progress, I would probably go w/ the 40' rope and just wrap the extra if it's inside (and the 1.5 inch is fine-it's really a monster, I can't imagine the 2" :p ) Do you have any posts in the basement that you could wrap the rope around? I thought that too w/ the anchor, but actually the rope movement is not as aggressive as I thought it would be. They show the floor bolt option also on the AOS website.....I think. The only issue w/ the kb is the cost of one w/ that weight, but it should be fine otherwise.

Good luck with the rope endeavors. Also, check out the knotandrope.com for pricing. If you call them, they can cap the ends for a small fee, and the rope is much cheaper....just a thought. :) But AOS will offer free shipping from time to time on the ropes which can save some $.

Thanks Theresa,

I don't have any post in m basement. I think that I am going to go with the 40 foot 1.5 in rope. I will check out knotandrope.com Thank you again for your help.
