Rice Protein Question--anyone?

I have several family members who've drastically changed their eating habits after reading The China Study and I've heard them talk so much about the studies on animal protein that I've decided to try supplementing with rice protein instead of whey. Migraines run in my family, so lots of soy protein isn't the best choice. Anyone have any experience with rice protein powder? Does it absorb well or have any big differences form whey protein?

Thanks!

Kelly

I've tried rice protein. It's supposed to be less allergenic for people than whey or soy. The only difference I've noticed is that it doesn't seem to "dissolve" as well as whey or soy protein ... it has a little "grainy" effect ... but it doesn't taste bad or anything. I don't really know about it's absorption though. Deb

I use Rice Protein - I'm lactose intolerant and have thyroid issues, so I choose rice over soy. It's good. Does not make quite as thick of a shake as whey, and is never sweetened (my Whey had stevia in it). But I find as long as I include a banana it works well.

In addition to rice protein, you might also consider hemp (the best veggie-based protein, IMO), yellow-pea protein, or a pea-and-rice mix. IMO, any of these are good options. You can check out some options at www.veganessentials.com and get the best-tasting hemp protein powder at www.nutiva.com .

Any of these is definitely better on the digestion than soy (at least I found them to be: when I switched from soy protein to these other ones, I found quickly that soy had been making me gassy).
