Resting HR.

Last night DH and I were lying in bed and for some reason we started counting each others heart beat. He said " I wonder is my heart beat as steady and as strong as yours?" So he counted my heart beats for a min and he said it was pretty slow. He only counted 46 beats for that min. When I had to count his I knew right away that I was going to count atleast one beat per min, it ended up being more then that though. I ended up counting 74.

Of course I am more active then him and have much less stress then him. Now he is all freaked out. He just called me (im at work) and I guess he did a bit of web browsing and found a website regarding resting HR. I told him not to worry about it b/c the website I found didn't even have 46 beats per min listed! LOL It said to count your heart rate for 3days straight before getting out of bed.

On a brighter note, I think he is ready to start getting serious. He is a little freaked out b/c obviously the faster your HR is the harder your heart is working. Soooo...we are going to go for a 30 mins run tonight together. I also told him, just b/c your underweight doesn't mean that you are healthy and that you can eat whatever you want, right?

Any thoughts on this?

Your heart rate is okay - it just means you are fit - but the best time to take it is first thing in the morning, before you get up from bed, without being awaken by an alarm. Do three days straight. Yours is "similar" to an olympic athlete's HR, which I have heard can be as low as 30 bpm. Mine is around 52. Your DH's HR is okay too, considering that you took it at night after a long day of being up and about. Try it in the morning, like I said though. Normal is between 60-100 and average is about 72. Yes, it is great though that he wants to run with you!

HTH!

Your post reminds me of that commercial where a trim, slender person is walking or on the diving board and they rattle off some numbers and then the person collapses because of their cholesterol or something like that.

I have a friend who is thin but is completely out of shape. She does have a desire to workout and sometimes she starts up a program but she stops quickly because she just doesn't have the willpower

Kudos to you for being physically fit and having such a low RHR. I think it's GREAT that this brought about the two of you running together.

He is lying next to you in bed. Of course his heart rate is up. Wink, Wink!. Now on a more serious note, I too have read that it should be taken first thing before getting up. There are so many factors in the day that can contribute, such as water and sodium intake, stress etc. I think it is great that he wants to start running with you.

Congrats on him wanting to run with you !

Think he'll actually do a P90X rotation too? (Remember all the times he said he'd start but didn't) ;)

Haha! What do you think Jacque??? Not quit!

The other night he said, "Don't laugh at me but I might do P90X tonight" He never did do it, nor did we go for our run last night b/c he went to work for an hour and didn't come home until 10'ish...then he expected me to go out when I had to work in the morning. I think he does things on purpose! (self sabotage maybe?)
