Whew. I gave blood last Thursday. I got home from work and was really in the mood for Low Max. Half way through, I got dizzy, and my arms and feet started cramping! I had to quit! Then, Satuday I did IMAX 3. The effects weren't so severe, but it was definitely much tougher than the other times I've tried it (and that routine kicks my butt!). Sunday - fully recovered, thank goodness.

Silly girl! You're not supposed to do anything strenuous for 24 hours after giving blood! Low Max might as well be called Strenuous Max. Take it easy next time and drink plenty of fluids!

Well sure! I use to give blood alot and I could not do anything for the rest of the day. Your body needs to build itself back up...rest, rest, rest!!! You might even need two rest days. Just listen to your body!

I try to give blood as often as I can. It always takes at least 2 weeks before I feel like I can work out at the same level I was before donating. I haven't donated since April because I wanted to be prepared for the road trip.

Whenever I get over 110 lbs., I give blood. I went to college at SUNY Buffalo, which is an enormous campus and I lived about a 1 mile walk from the campus. One day I gave blood and came very close to passing out on the walk home. I'm never vey patient about the recovery time either.

Who'da thunk a pint of blood could make that much of a difference?

I save the High Step Circuit video for the day after I donate. I'm generally a mess for about a week!! But I recently found the platelet donation, apheresis, is MUCH more gentle on my body! The actual donation takes longer, but I'm back in the saddle after an afternoon nap.

Yikes. It really does usually take me about 4-5 days. My dad is the same way when he donates. Be gentle!!!

Well, I"m certainly not giving the next time I come due. That would put it right before my Canada vacation, and there's no way I'm going from practically sea level (Arkansas) to the Canadian Rockies with a pint less of blood. I'll need all the oxygen-carrying capacity I can get!

I've found that if I work out before I give blood and am careful about doubling up on my liquids and eating a little more than I'm fine by the next two days, I try to plan my donations on the day before a rest day. When I come back I usually try to go a little lighter--like C&W or a CTX cardio. Not Lomax! :) This way I don't have to lose a day and get my rotation screwed up.

>Yeah, I know, but I didn't think it would be that severe.

OMG! LOL! I almost fell out of my chair laughing. Low Max is tough!

But you learned your lesson and good for you for donating blood.:)

I found that out the hard way, too. I gave blood on the 1 year Anniversery of 9/11. Went for a run the next day - heck, it was a 3 mile run around our local streets - not the typical 6 mile trail run I was doing at that time. Oh, I made it about 2 miles before those little black dots started swimming before my eyes. I walked SLOWLY the rest of the way home.

Now, I do give every 3 months, but like others, I'm careful to time it to a rest day.
