Recovery video suggestions

Hey all! I know everbody here is sooo looking forward to the new series, but alas, I will be out of the "Cathe" type intensity for awhile....boo hoo. I never bought any videos BC(before Cathe) so I do not have anything but her wonderful, tough workouts, and now I am looking around trying to find something to do after the initial recovery time after my surgery. Does anybody have any suggestions? A low impact favorite? And perhaps a beginning weight workout that will not be too boring? Thanks a bunch! Donna.

I like Cindy Crawford's New Dimension. It is a video designed to bring you back from pregnancy to a fitness level. I used it after I had emergency surgery two years ago. Go to collagevideo.com and check their clip on it. It has 3 separate workouts, from easier to harder. I really like it and keep it around for when I am coming back from any type of illness, injury or surgery.

Blessings from our home to yours...Runathon

Hi, Donna! Not knowing what type of surgery you're going to have (btw, good luck), if you like step you may want to consider Kathy Smith's Original Step Workout (available at collagevideo.com as well as her own website); it has low, (stated) intermediate and (stated) high-intensity segments that would be good if you want something more moderate than Cathe. Also consider her "Great Buns And Thighs" step routine; again you'll find this more moderate than Cathe, so it may be a good lower-intensity maintenance thing. Very few real propulsion-oriented segments. Also condider for weight work her two-part series "Secrets of a Great Lower Body" and "Secrets of a Great Upper Body", a good intermediate weight-lifting routine.

Another suggestion: in addition to the above, consider stringing along a series of Cathe warm-ups for lower-intensity cardio; obviously these will be lower intensity exertion and include lots of stretching as well.

I've used Kathy Smith's "Secrets..." workouts; Karen Voight's early "Firm Arms & Abs" & "Lean Legs"; & the ancient Jane Fonda's weight training workout with the guy that looks like Bruce Jenner, when recovering from an illness or injury. The Jane Fonda tape was my first weight training video!

For cardio, swimming, an indoor or outdoor bike, or the rowing machine. For step, Gin Miller's early Reebok tape is straight-forward. You might need to modify the lunges.

The strength work on Cathe's "Wedding" tape is a good come back routine. I don't recall much about the step portion.

Take care & be patient. Your body will reward you.

For cardio, you might want to look at Donna Richardson. I have a couple of her older cardio workouts and they are low impact (you can add optional higher intensity moves as you recover. She just released three new cardio workouts that are beginning to intermediate level. BTW, most of her workouts are floor cardio, not step.

For strength, you might consider the Quick Fix series (legs, arms, and abs workouts plus a total body compilation). The strength segments are only 10 minutes long which may be perfect for you as you recover. As you get stronger you could always do 2 segments in a row. There is also the weight training and pilates for dummies videos. Once again, aimed at the beginning to intermediate level.

You can also check to see which of your existing workout arsenal can be modified while you're recuperating.

Good luck and get well soon.

Hi Run...thanks so much for your suggestion! I really like the tape(I did a little preview on College), so I bid for it on ebay...lets see if I get it. I just hope that I will not need it for long! Thanks again and take care, Donna.

Hey A-jock, it is funny but Kathy Smith is the lady who go me started in my fitness quest years ago! I have always really liked her, and I began lifting with her Timesaver video(that I gave to a friend ages ago!) Anyway, thanks so much for the suggestions....right now I am trying to get in all the Cathe workouts I can handle until my surgery date(hysterectomy). All three of those tapes look great! Thanks again and take care, Donna.
