Real Bad Day

I locked my son in the van!! He will be 3 next month. I don't know how I did it but I did. We were at the gas station getting gas. I pumped the gas and went to get back in and I couldn't. The keys were in the ignition and my cell was in the passenger seat and my sweet baby was in his car seat looking at me. I tried to get him to pull the lock up but he had no idea what I was talking about (before we told him to stay away from the buttons). The gas attendant had to call the police to come and open the door. So here I am trying to entertain my son through the side door. He did real well untilright before the policeman showed up and then he started to cry. Yep, that means mommy was crying too. Got the door open and thanked the man to no end. Took my son out and hugged and kissed him to death. Went to walmart to pick up a couple things and he asks for a toy, who am I to say no now?!! Poor baby!!

Aww poor lil' thing! Those things happen and I'm just so happy all is well. I think a toy was in order. Give him a big hug! (Another one!;-))

That's happened to my daughter and me twice. The first time she was almost 3 and she and I were going to go for a bike ride out at the park. She was in her car seat and I was loading the bike on the back of the car. Somehow I bumped the car door shut while I was getting something out of the shed and the lock was down. She was locked in with the dog (can't remember how he got in there, must have thought he was coming with us). A cop came and opened the door.

The second time, she was 4 and we were at my father's house. I left my purse on the front seat (I keep my extra key in my wallett). I left my keys in the ignition. I had put her in the car and was talking to my father. Her door was open, but she had been playing up in the driver's seat and locked the doors without me knowing. So I got her in her car seat and closed her door. Then she was locked in and locked in her car seat. I hadn't taught her how to undo her car seat buckle yet, so the cops had to come again. This time they broke my driver's side lock and I can't lock or unlock it from the outside.

I have to wonder how many times a day these guys have to do this!

Sabrina, bless your heart! Yes, he was scared, but for you it must have been hell. He is young and you know he has that resilience, Little lady, all I can tell you from your post is you recovered in time, managed to keep him entertained (not scared) and everything worked out fine. You know what, I personally, honestly do when these situations arise? I thank my lucky stars (my Dear God) I was spared and definitely heed this as a warning .

I think when I go to get gas now that I will just leave my door open! I am still trying to figure out how the door locked in the first place. My son is happily playing with his new toy, you would have thought nothing had happened. I just hope I don't have nightmares about it later!

i don't have kids, but i always put my keys in my pocket when i get out of the car to get gas to prevent myself from locking them in! i know that may sound like a "duh!" solution, but it works!
