I just bought some quinoa from Trader Joe's, but I have no idea what to make with it! Does it have enough protein to stand alone or do you couple it with another protein like salmon?

quinoa

My all time fav food. Saute anything you like (cabbage, onions, garlice, broccoli,) & put it in the quinoa prior to making the quinoa. Also, take the quinoa & toast it before cooking, it brings out a really nutty flavor to it. I put the sauteed veges, black beans & corn & make a burrito to taco. Your imagination is the limit & what you like put it in the mixture. I also use vegetable broth instead of water to cook it. when you toast the quinoa you will notice a difference in the taste as when you don't toast the quinoa. Try it both ways & see how you like. Google quina burritos or quinoa enchaladas and you will be amazed at what show up. Quinoa is also gluten free

One of my summertime favorites (is good warm too) Cook quinoa, & combine

http://www.recipezaar.com/recipe/Quinoa-Black-Bean-Salad-152136

Ingredients

1/3 cup quinoa
1 teaspoon olive oil
4 teaspoons fresh lime juice
1/4 teaspoon cumin
1/4 teaspoon coriander
1 tablespoon fresh minced cilantro
2 tablespoons minced scallions
1 (15 ounce) can black beans, rinsed and drained
2 cups diced tomatoes
1 cup diced bell pepper
2 teaspoons minced jalapeno chiles
salt and pepper

Love it. Also good with a dressing of red wine vinegar or lemon juice.

You will find many recipes for quinoa but I just wanted to say make sure you rinse it really well before you cook it. If not it has a kind of bitter taste.

Ohhh - I opt for mine with a sweeter, breakfast cereal flavor. I cook just like steel cut oats, stir in with 1/2 scoop protein powder, add 1 tblsp freshly ground flax seed, and pour in a little almond milk! BEST breakfast ever!

washing quinoa

Trader Joe's quinoa is already washed, not necessary. Most packaged quinoa is pre washed, just check the label

You can make tabouli with quinoa (cooked, sprouted, or sprouted and steamed.

Quinoa pilaf is also pretty common.

There's no need to worry about any kind of protein combining, as quinoa contains all essential amino acids (it's a 'complete protein' in and of itself).

Fun fact: quinoa is actually not a grain, but a seed (sometimes called a 'pseudo-grain,' a category that also includes buckwheat and amaranth).
