Which should I get and why? What's the difference between what I can get at Target and the Troy Lite System?

TIA

Hi, Sue! Can you describe the Target set? I have the Troy and love it. The bar is 5 pounds and the weights are the coated ones. The set came with a pair of 7.5 pound plates, a pair of 5 pound plates and 2 pairs of 2.5 pounders which adds up to 40 pounds. It has the clips you squeeze to keep the plates on. Some of the sets at the store have a bar that comes in two pieces and snaps together. If the box is short, you'll know that's true. Let us know what you decide!

RE: QUICK...Troy Lite Barbell System versus set at Targ...

I bought the one from Target several months ago and have loved using it. I think it was around $50. The bar weighs 5 lbs., the plates are plastic coated, and the weights total 110 lbs. (2-25#, 4-10#, 4-5#). It came with two dumbbell bars and I often load 20 lbs onto these since I didn't already have 20#ers (saved me more $). It has 3 sets of spring clips which enables me to easily keep up with the weight changes on PLB. The only thing it didn't have was 2.5# plates so I bought 4 of those elsewhere for about $1.50 each.

I can't speak to the Troy Lite because I've never seen it, but lots of people here love it.

Check the thickness of the barbell bar itself. If it is more than an inch in diameter, then it is thicker than the Troy Lite. I've never had anything except the Troy Lite, but many people on this forum say that the thinner bar is the thing they love most about the Troy Lite. Apparently, this provides the ideal grip because almost everyone who has it likes it better than their other barbells.

Hope this helps!

I have 2 barbells. One is 20lb, I got it so long ago I can't remember what kind it is. It has held up well. I have a lighter one about 8 lbs, that I got in a set at Target some time ago. It has the clips which are alot faster than the screw on ones from my heavier barbell. The weight plates are covered in plastic and they are bizarre wts...4.4, 8.8 and 14.3 increments. I also have many other wt plates, 1.25, 2.5, 5, 7.5, 10. I like using 2 barbells when it comes to PLB. I think thinner might be better although it depends on what you are used to. Thinner is probably good for your first set as your grip would be stronger. :) Carole

Nancy, I do love that smiley with the coffee...
