hi everyone

i thought perhaps i might get some ideas here....

finn, my 10week old ds, and i are flying south next week for 8 days. the new faa regulations prohibit liquids and gels as carry on. any idea what i could use on his bottom with diaper changes? i don't know of any "solids", but i thought you guys might. also, my pediatrician said he is still too young for bug spray and sunscreen - any ideas of what we can do so we can still enjoy the sun and sand? he is very fair like me.

thanks for any help or ideas.

What about, before you leave, spreading some diaper cream on the unused diaper(s) that you take with you on the plane? I don't know if that would be a problem with the FAA - you could probably ask.

As for the sunscreen, I would just suggest that you keep the baby covered in light clothing and a hat, and in the shade as much as possible.

Have a great trip!

suncreen response (i don't know about diapers): a friend of mine was having trouble with this as well a few months back. i remember in the end she bought some sunscreen with zinc oxide or titanium dioxide - i'm not sure why this is better...i think basically looking for products for babies and chemical free should do it..

i did find this link on it:

have a good trip:)

I received a very cute "sun" outfit for my baby shower - a shirt, pants, and hat made out of sun-resistant material. It may be difficult to find now (since we're going into fall), but any long-sleeved cotton clothing should work, and maybe an umbrella?

For the diapers, you might try cornstarch. I know regular baby powder is a no-no, but cornstarch absorbs wetness also. It's not as effective as the ointments, of course, but it should work in a pinch.

Morris,
I swear I saw something on TV just the other day where they were using a kind of wipe for just this problem. (In addition to the regular baby wipe of course:) ). So, in other words, they used one type of wipe to clean with and another (new, I guess?) type of wipe to apply what was basically diaper rash ointment.
I'm sorry, I don't know what they were called or who makes them, but you could poke around on internet and see if you can find out!
I LOVE the name Finn, BTW!

Morris, enjoy your trip. I bet if you coat Finn's bottom well before you leave, he should be fine til you get your luggage. In terms of sun block. I live on the cape so took Ashley numerous times to the beach. I bought a small pop up tent that compacted pretty small. I put her in a lightweight outfit and put her car seat in the tent with the top of the car seat up. I would think Babysrus still has some tents or another store near you. I never used sun block on her.
